The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Ondo State, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare has challenged corps members not to seek ill-gotten wealth, which is questionable.
The State Coordinator offered this advice in her farewell address to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) corps members at the Akure North Local Government Secretariat, Iju-Itaogbolu, Ondo State.
Bakare, who lauded the various contributions of the members of the service corps to the society, admonished them to seek legal and rightful ways of attaining credible status in the society, saying that taking the fast lane would do them more harm than good.
“My distinguished and patriotic Nigerians, I want to advise you to toe an honourable path in seeking a fulfilling future. Let your perseverance and determination overshadow any other consideration because those who take steps of life as they come will always have good stories to tell in the future, but engaging in illegal and sharp practices lead to perdition”.
She encouraged them to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to guarantee a secured future, explaining that the society is drifting towards complementing educational qualifications with what can be achieved with the skills they have passion for.
“My dear creative and patriotic children, let me remind you that life will put many red lights in front of you, yet, you need to press harder and see those red lights not as stumbling blocks, but stepping stones to greater you. You should know that rudeness and arrogance will take you nowhere, only good manners will open doors, which only education or qualifications can not open”.
The NYSC Ondo State boss enjoined them to be different, as this will definitely assist them to surmount whatever challenges life places before them.
“You need to be inspired by the various motivational speakers and trainers who may appear to have it all, but have struggled to succeed and are where they are today” she said.
The NYSC helmsman in the Sunshine State charged them to continue to be good ambassadors of the noble Scheme as well as their respective families and various institutions they graduated from.
1400 corps members who fulfilled the requirements of the mandatory one year national service qualified and received their Certificate of National Service (CNS), while 27 others who had various infractions got Extensions of Service.
However, 30 others who did not serve continuously for three consecutive months, would repeat the service year, pending the ratification and approval by the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.
The State Coordinator earlier paid courtesy call on the Executive Chairman of the Council, who was unavoidably absent and was represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwadare Fadumo.
The Coordinator, while thanking the Council boss for his welfare package, requested the composition and inauguration of the NYSC Local Government Committee, which according to her, would further decentralised the Scheme’s activities at the Local Government level.
