The Oyo Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy, Kehinde Alade, during a joint traffic enforcement operation with the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA) on Tuesday, May 20.

According to a statement by the Oyo Police Public Relations Officer, Osifeso Adewale, officers attempted to stop a black Honda Accord with Lagos registration number FST 639 JJ, driven by Odunayo Alade, father of the deceased, who was reportedly driving against traffic.

Rather than stopping, the driver allegedly sped toward the enforcement team, colliding with two OYTMA vehicles and a police patrol truck.

In response, barricades were set up in an attempt to halt the vehicle but the driver reportedly breached them, continuing to drive recklessly and posing a threat to officers and road users.

The Police Command stated that due to the erratic behavior of the driver, officers suspected a possible criminal situation, including the potential for abduction.

A pursuit ensued, during which a police corporal discharged his firearm in an attempt to stop the vehicle by targeting the tyres.

Tragically, the bullet struck the 14-year-old boy seated in the back seat. He was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH) but confirmed dead on arrival. His body has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The statement reads: “The Oyo State Police Command regrets to inform the general public of a tragic incident that occurred during a joint traffic enforcement operation with the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA), which led to the unfortunate death of a 14-year-old male, Kehinde Alade.

“At approximately 0745 hours on May 20th, 2025, along the Airport Roundabout, Alakia-Adelubi/Airport Road, Egbeda Local Government Area, an enforcement team comprising OYTMA officers and personnel of the Oyo State Police Command attempted to stop a black Honda Accord (LAGOS registration number FST 639 JJ), driven by one Odunayo Alade,’m’ (father of the deceased young male) who was found to be driving against traffic (one-way).
Rather than complying with lawful directives, the driver allegedly accelerated towards the enforcement team in an attempt to evade arrest, ramming into two OYTMA vehicles and a Police Buffalo Patrol truck.

“In an effort to prevent further damage and harm to officers and other road users, barricades were set up to demobilize the fleeing vehicle. However, the driver reportedly broke through these barricades, continuing to drive recklessly and endangering lives.

“Given the nature of the driver’s conduct, officers suspected possible criminal activity or a case of abduction. A police chase ensued. In an attempt to immobilize the vehicle, a police corporal discharged a firearm aimed at the tyres. Tragically, the bullet missed and struck Kehinde Alade ‘m’, who was seated in the rear seat behind the driver. He was immediately rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), where he was confirmed dead on arrival. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

“To forestall any threat to public peace, the Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, psc, immediately deployed tactical and intelligence units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), to the scene and other strategic locations in Ibadan. This swift response restored calm, ensured public safety, and allowed for normal activities to resume.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident, to be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The officer responsible for the discharge of the firearm has been taken into custody and, along with other members of the team, is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation. The Command assures the public that the process will be transparent and the findings made public.

“The Oyo State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the family of Kehinde Alade. The Command remains resolute in its commitment to upholding justice and ensuring accountability. Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has announced a N5m cash reward for anyone who provides credible information leading to the recapture of inmates who escaped from the Medium Custodial Centre in Ilesha, Osun State.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer for the NCoS, Umar Abubakar, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the NCoS is urging members of the public to report any information regarding the whereabouts of the escaped inmates to the nearest security agencies.

The statement noted that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality, and the identities of informants will remain anonymous.

The statement read, “In order to encourage public participation , the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State.

“The Service urges members of the public to report any information they may have regarding the whereabouts of the inmates at large to the nearest security agencies. All information will be treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity.

“For those wishing to share information, the NCoS has provided several contact channels, including its Public Complaint Response Desk at complaintresponsedesk@corrections.gov.ng. An overnight rainfall on Tuesday led to the escape of seven inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, after the facility’s old perimeter wall collapsed.

According to the NCoS, the breach occurred around 2:00 a.m. and was caused by the structural failure of the wall during the storm.

A man who recorded himself burning a Bible and then posted it online has been found shot de@d.

Antônio Rocha de Sousa’s body was discovered on Wednesday, May 14, riddled with bullet wounds.

Police are treating his de@th as a homicide.

Just 10 days before his de@th, Antônio uploaded a clip where he was seen setting the holy book alight.

In the footage, the 47-year-old flicked a lighter at the Bible and said: “This here is a Bible, which they say is sacred. Look what it does when faced with fire. It burns.”

He added: “To me, God doesn’t exist. This is just a way to enslave and manipulate people. If you haven’t woken up yet, it’s time to wake up. Look what this ‘sacred’ thing does in the face of fire. It’s time to wake up – God doesn’t exist.”

Police said Antônio was gunned down in a street in Tianguá, out west from Fortaleza, Brazil. Yet other reports suggests locals came across his corpse in his home, where he lived alone, and called the police, reports the Mirror.

Officials are investigating the incident, with no arrests having been made yet.

A police spokesperson told the press: “We are looking into all possibilities.”

They’re investigating whether they link back to the video or the man’s past run-ins with the law.

Reports say Antônio had history of causing intentional harm.

They suspect the Bible he burnt was stolen.

Police kicked off a theft, damage, and sacrilege probe on 10 May.

He also had previous for GBH, reports state. His social media contained several rants and opinions, available to the public, which he published frequently.

Antônio last shared on social media: “Follower of Christ, (peacekeeper of Peace). Born again in (Christ), among the living, who were once de@d…after having been tested, tried, and approved by God.”

This case is similar to Salwan Momika’s – when he got shot in his home in Södertälje, just outside Stockholm, back in January of this year. The 38-year-old Iraqi landed in Sweden as a refugee in 2018 and made headlines for burning Qurans in 2023.

Abdulrahman Bello, the suspected murderer of Hafsoh Lawal along with his accomplices on Wednesday appeared in court in continuation of the murder case charge against them.

In the video evidence shown in the court, Abdulrahman Bello, confessed that he killed Hafsoh Lawal because he needed human’s hands for money rituals .

He confirmed that if he had the connection of how to get such part from anywhere, he wouldn’t have gone to the extent of killing another soul personnally stressing that he carried out the evil act all alone.

The trial continued with the appearance of another witness, Inspector Ayodele Azeez attached to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kwara State Police Command.

He said that “on 14th February 2025, a case of murder and rape was transfered from C Division Oja-Oba to State CID. The 1st defendant of Olunlade was found with the following exihibits; one axe, cutlass, table , charms, right and left hands of the victim, consultation book, techno phone, iPhone, iPhone SR, paint rubber, container with blood, slippers and after the case has been accepted at the state CID, it was later reffered to anti-homicide and anti-robbery sections.

“The case was assigned to some team of Police officers led by ASP Dada Segun who directed me to obtain statement from the suspect and I took him to a conducive environment in a room. I asked him which language he prefer to speak and he settled from English Language and I asked him some other important questions that did he have any relative around the police command or any lawyer to witness how his statement will be recorded.”

The police personel added that, “He said No! I asked him if he need the service of any lawyer so that I can assist him to get one. He agreed that I should get him a lawyer but that he doesn’t have any money to pay for the legal service. I told him not to worry about the money.

“I eventually got him a lawyer and the lawyer agreed on how his statement will be recorded. After this, I brought out my statement sheet already cuationed. After writing his statement under caution, he signed it and after recording everything in his own hand writing in the presence of his lawyer, Barr. A.O. Ahmed.

“I told him to cross check again incase there was any ommission or need for addition to the earlier wrtitten Statement and he confirmed the there was no problem and he finally signed the statement.

“After checking the statement, my team leader ASP Dada Segun requested that the lawyer should also endorse the statement which he also did while I also signed my column too as an IPO. ASP Dada Segun also requested me to also do video recording of how the suspect signed his statement.

“I also used my Android Phone to do recording and I transfered it to my laptop and later to s Compact Disk with Certificate of compliance.”

Speaking further, Insp. Azeez said: “On 16th February 2025, team led by ASP Dada Segun left the office and went to the scene of the crime at Olunlade and a pair of ear ring belonging to Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal was found therein.”

He however confirmed all the exihibits tendered before the court as items recovered from Abdulrahman Bello’s house.

Barr. Agbede who held brief for Chukwudi Maduka, counsel to the 1st defendant objected to the admisibility of the Compact Disk by the court stressing that the suspect was coersed before making his statement while counsels to other defendant raised no objection.

Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi however admitted the Compact Disk tendered by the witness as an exihibit and ordered that the compact Disk be played in the court room.

The witness further added that, “when the investigation started, Abdulrahman’s call log revealed that the remaining defendants were on his regular call list before the day and the very day he perpetrated the evil act.

“All of them were tracked and arrested. When we took them before Abdulrahman Bello, it was discovered that they know each other, and the 2nd defendant happens to be the teacher of Abdulrahman, the 3rd defendant his also a student of the 2nd defendant while the 3rd and 5th defendant are the closest friends of the 1st defendant.

“We carried search on their houses but nothing was recovered and we returned them back to the station.

As at the time for filing this report the court went for recess at exactly 11:32am.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident.

He assured the public that efforts are being intensified in collaboration with other security agencies and local community leaders, the statement added.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service has launched an expansive manhunt following the rainfall that breached the security of its facility at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ilesa, Osun State.

“The force majeure which occurred at about 0200 hours on Tuesday, 20th of May 2025 led to the escape of seven (7) inmates.

“Following the incident, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

“The service is working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody,” the statement read.

NCoS is urging members of the public to assist with any information that could aid in recapturing the fugitives.

Prison escapes have become a recurring security challenge in Nigeria, often exacerbated by the deteriorating condition of the country’s correctional facilities.

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two employees of Premium Trust Bank, Kehinde Odeyemi and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola, before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

They were arraigned with three others, Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka, and Sunday Badeniyi Okunola, on a seven count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal.

According to a statement on the EFCC’s X handle, the defendants allegedly conspired to manipulate the server and domain credentials of Premium Trust Bank in an attempt to gain unauthorised access to the bank’s database with the intent to steal customers’ funds.

The Commission clarified that the attempted cyberattack was thwarted before any financial loss occurred.

The anti-graft agency’s statement partly reads: “The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Awolowo on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, arraigned the duo of Kehinde Odeyemi and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola, who are both employees of Premium Trust Bank, before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

“They were arraigned alongside Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka and Sunday Badeniyi Okunola on a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal.

“The defendants allegedly conspired to manipulate the server and domain credentials of the bank in a bid to gain unauthorised access to its database and steal depositors’ funds.

“The planned fraudulent activity was, however, averted by the Commission.

“They pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

“In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel, Zeenat B. Atiku, prayed for a trial date and the defendants’ remand in a Correctional Centre.

“Counsel to the first defendant, Adeleke Adepoju, urged the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms. He stated that he didn’t have enough time to make a formal application.

“Other counsel also sought to make oral applications for their clients.

“Justice Owoeye, however, refused the applications and ordered the counsel to make formal bail applications before the court.

“The judge ordered the first defendant to be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

“The second, third, fourth and fifth defendants were ordered remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

“The matter was adjourned till June 30, 2025 for commencement of trial.”

A West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) candidate was allegedly shot dead by a stray police bullet in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to OyoAffairs, eyewitnesses stated that police officers while chasing a Hilux vehicle along Gbagi Market Road, had reportedly opened fire, which reportedly hit the student.

The victim was in his father’s car on the way to sit for his exam alongside his twin brother when he was hit by the bullet.

He was however rushed to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Protesters have however taken the corpse to the Oyo State Secretariat to inform Governor Seyi Makinde of the unfortunate incident.

A dramatic moment unfolded in Rome during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to the Vatican for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, as his son, Seyi Tinubu, was blocked by a Vatican security officer.

Seyi, who was part of the president’s official delegation, had attempted to move closer while his father exchanged pleasantries with the newly inaugurated Pontiff.

Dressed in a sleek black suit similar to the president’s, Seyi was seen walking toward the interaction area when a plain-clothed Vatican security official stepped in and blocked his path.

Gospel singer, Timilehin Ajayi, arrested for murdering 24-year-old Salome Adaidu, was spotted in court this morning praying to God.

He was in court today for the continuation of his trial over the tragic demise of Salome.

Timileyin was apprehended on January 12 over the m#rder of Salome who was a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving at Nicon Insurance in the Nation’s capital, Abuja.

She was murdered when she visited the suspect at his house in the Papalana axis at New Karshi in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

He was nabbed while trying to dispose her body which he had chopped into bits.

When he was interrogated, he said he had no remorse for his action. He claimed she was his girlfriend and was always cheating on him.
