A Nigerian businessman has come under fire after allegedly offering his apprentice only ₦1 million as settlement after seven years of service—while also accusing him of stealing ₦18 million.

This development was revealed in a series of posts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to the posts, the young man had served under the traditional Igbo apprenticeship system known as *Nwa Boi* for seven years.

At the end of the service, the boss reportedly offered to pay him ₦1 million, a gesture that sparked outrage among residents who witnessed the incident.

One aggrieved witness in the video was heard saying:

“This man is a liar, very wicked somebody.”

In response to the backlash, the boss accused the apprentice of stealing ₦18 million from him during his years of service.

As the post gained traction online, social media users flooded the comment section to express their opinions and demand justice for the apprentice.

A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting in Mapo in Ibadan has ordered that two brothers, Usman, 20, and Toheeb Wasiu, 26, should be remanded in the correctional centre for allegedly insulting a police officer.

They pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace filed against them.

The President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Akintayo ordered that the sureties must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Oyo State government and must also possess a valid identity card each.

She adjourned the case until July 2 for a hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had informed the court that the defendants committed the crime on May 13, at about 12:30 am, at the entrance of Mapo police station, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Shedding more light on the matter, Ayeni said that the Wasiu brothers cursed and shouted abusive words at Insp Taiwo Ige and two other personnel.

According to the prosecutor, the siblings used the abusive utterances to incite the public against the police, thus causing a breach of peace.

He noted that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 249 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State 2000

An Akure Magistrate’s Court has issued a restraining order against a man, Mr. Ademola Adesina, barring him from loitering or passing the night at the family residence of his estranged wife, Mrs Iyabo Omoleye.

The order came after Omoleye approached the court, alleging that her husband had failed in his responsibilities towards their children and had been abusive throughout their marriage.

She disclosed that Adesina deserted the family for over six months and only returned to forcefully lay claim to the children, despite his prolonged absence and lack of support.

According to her, the respondent had consistently refused to cater for the children, allegedly claiming he derived no personal gain from doing so.

She further accused him of resurfacing only to harass her and loiter around her family home, where she currently resides with the children.

In his defence, Adesina painted a different picture, telling the court that peace once reigned in their home until he was incarcerated.

Upon regaining his freedom, he claimed to have found his wife three months pregnant, an alleged pregnancy she later terminated, raising suspicions of infidelity during his time in custody.

He further alleged that his wife mocked his sexual performance, comparing him unfavourably with her supposed lovers.

Adesina claimed he was now homeless and unemployed, adding that his wife had taken over their apartment’s rent and subsequently evicted him.

The man lamented that he had since been left with no alternative but to sleep at the doorstep of his wife’s family house.

He also claimed that his children had been brainwashed and now barely recognised him as their father.

Ruling on the matter, Hon. Justice A.E Akeredolu advised Adesina to focus on rebuilding his life and securing a source of livelihood, rather than returning to the wife’s family house premises.

“The respondent is hereby restrained from going to sleep in the wife’s family house premises,” the court ruled.

“The issue of access to and maintenance of the children will be decided on the next adjournment date.

Despite the clear directive, Adesina maintained that he had nowhere else to go and would remain at the location.

In response, the court warned that any defiance of the order would attract severe consequences.

The case was adjourned till July 1 for further hearing.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed all commissioners and political appointees in his cabinet to either defect with him to the All Progressives Congress, APC, or resign from their positions.

The directive was reportedly issued during an ongoing State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting on Thursday, where the governor openly confirmed his decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the APC.

Sources present at the meeting disclosed that Governor Eno made it clear that his defection should come as no surprise to any of his appointees, stating:

“Anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century,” he said.

He explained that his decision to align with the APC was driven by his admiration for the leadership style of President Bola Tinubu, adding that he wants to work more closely with the Federal Government.

The governor issued a stern warning to his appointees, saying he has “nothing to negotiate” with anyone unwilling to follow his political direction.

“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you,” Eno declared.

“Let me tell you, anybody who believes that when I leave the PDP he will use the party structure to fight me is lying, because I will still control the PDP structure.”

 

 

A Nigerian returnee has accused the United Bank for Africa (UBA) of allegedly clearing N150 million from his bank account based on claims that he was dead.

The shocking allegation came to light during a live video call with human rights activist Gwamnishu Harrison, who has now vowed to take up the case legally.

According to the returnee, who has not yet been publicly identified, the incident occurred in 2023 while he was living abroad.

He revealed that during his time away, he regularly saved money in his UBA account, making deposits up to five times a year.

However, upon returning to Nigeria, he was stunned to hear from bank officials that his entire savings had been withdrawn by individuals who allegedly claimed he had died and was already buried.

The man added that when he visited the bank to demand answers, police officers were already on standby to arrest him, accusing him of causing a disturbance. He recounted that all he did was raise his voice out of shock and frustration.

A lecturer with the Lagos State University, Adeyinka Bello, has said that all her children, who are 100% Yoruba, must marry Yoruba spouses.

She stated this on Wednesday, May 21, while reacting to Davido’s “Igbo by blood” comment.

The singer, whose paternal grandmother, Esther Nnenna Adeleke, was an Igbo woman, had made the declaration while responding to an X user who criticized his association with Igbos, suggesting that they will betray him.

Reacting to the singer’s comment, Mrs Bello said he behaves ‘typical to type’, adding that she will ensure her kids marry Yoruba, even Yoruba Cuba or Brazil.

“I’m thoroughly, 100% Yoruba. No mix. My children are all Yoruba. Awon omomo mi gan must all be Yoruba. Of any tribe. No discrimination when it gets to that. Call me anything you want o. I don’t care,” she wrote.

“Yesterday, a young beautiful lady came to my office, we got talking on her mission. She’s the representative of a big company in Nigeria wanting collaboration with our faculty.

“Of course, because it’s specifically with my department, she was sent to me. We got talking on the collaboration, I found her very amiable, pretty and quite smart.

“I then asked for her name, she dropped a Yoruba name! How excited I was. I immediately told her I don’t communicate with fellow Yoruba in English. She was taken aback.

“I said unless we are in an officious situation, which was not so as we were speaking. She outrightly announced she’s Yoruba but more Delta as her mum is Delta woman and she even speaks her mum’s language and English… I said Adedamola Adetayo postulations are precise.

“I reckoned, minus 1. Why I would ensure my kids all marry Yoruba. Even Yoruba Cuba or Brazil, they must marry Yoruba.”

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a prominent civil rights advocacy group, has accused the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme of failing to pay outstanding arrears of the increased N77,000 monthly allowance to over 600,000 former corps members.

 

While speaking to Pointblank, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, National Coordinator of HURIWA explained that the corps members, who served in 2024 and passed out before the full implementation of the new allowance, are yet to receive the difference between the old N33,000 and the improved N77,000 monthly stipends, despite repeated assurances from government officials.

 

The rights group specifically alleges that the government has shortchanged six batches of NYSC corps members who completed their service in 2024, without receiving the improved allowances or their promised backlogs.

These batches include:

Batch A Stream 1 (passed out February 2024)

Batch A Stream 2 (passed out April 2024)

Batch B Stream 1 (passed out June 2024)

Batch B Stream 2 (passed out July 2024)

Batch C Stream 1 (passed out October 2024)

Batch C Stream 2 (passed out November 2024)

HURIWA estimates the total number of corps members owed to be around 618,000, assuming approximately 103,000 corps members per batch (103,000 \times 6 = 618,000).

The Federal Government had increased corps members’ allowance from N33,000 to N77,000 in September 2024, in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.

However, despite this announcement and subsequent promises, the new rate only began to be implemented for serving corps members around March 24, 2025.

HURIWA recalled that in March 2025, after several months of delay, the Federal Government had promised to pay the backlog of the new N77,000 monthly allowance, assuring that serving corps members and those who were in the scheme when the increment was announced in September 2024 would receive backdated payments.

 

The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, had reiterated this assurance during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“You saw the new DG saying that ‘You will get it,’ and they’re asking him a question: ‘What about those that are going out now, are they going to receive it [backlog]?’ He said, ‘We have your details’,” the minister stated.

The Minister had also explained the delay in implementation, attributing it to budgetary issues.

“It was not in the budget when the president announced it, and for some agencies and parastatals, you need your salary to be in the budget before it is paid.

“Before anybody can approve anything, you must have a budgetary allocation for it. But the budgetary allocation has been done now. We are done with the process, and it has been approved. It has been signed, and now they can start paying it”, Olawande said in March.

 

However, HURIWA now accuses the federal ministry and the NYSC hierarchy of failing to deliver on this promise, as hundreds of thousands of corps members who served and passed out in 2024 are yet to receive their improved allowances or the corresponding backlogs from September 2024.

 

As of May 2025, HURIWA is demanding an explanation from the Minister of Youth Development and the Director-General of the NYSC scheme regarding the continued non-payment of these backlogs.

 

“A government built on transparency and accountability would have come back to Nigerians through the media of mass communication to offer acceptable and verifiable reasons why both the ministry of youth development and the NYSC management spectacularly failed to keep to the sacred promise of paying these backlogs to corpers who served Nigeria meritoriously and are now in the job market searching for employment opportunities,” he stated.

The father whose 15-year-old son was f@tally shot by police in Ibadan, Oyo State, has expressed grief and anger over the tragic incident that claimed the life of his son, Kehinde Alade.

Recall that a secondary school student was said to have been hit by a stray bullet, allegedly fired by a yet-to-be-identified police officer, during a high-speed chase.

The incident reportedly occurred around Gbagi Market Road in Ibadan, as the officer and the traffic agency officials pursued a fleeing vehicle, suspected to be conveying internet fraudsters, popularly called “Yahoo boys”.

The teenager’s death sparked outrage and a protest in Ibadan.

Narrating what transpired, the father of the teenager, Alade, explained why he drove against traffic.

Speaking, when newsmen visited his house, he said: “I take them to school every day and then, in the afternoon, if I am chanced, I pick them cack home. There were about five children in the car. While some were going to the Olatundun area, others were going to Olabidan. When I came out of the house, I needed to pump the tyre at a junction close by. As the vulcaniser finished, I entered the car to move and, as I moved, I saw a car moving towards me. I did not know it belonged to the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority.

“As soon as I saw them, I moved, but they tried stopping me and, in the process, they hit my car. I, thereafter, put the car in reverse to bypass them, but I did not know four vehicles were chasing me.

“As their towing vehicle hit my car, I manoeuvred and escaped; but the next thing I heard was a gunshot. My son was shouting ‘Daddy, daddy’ in the back seat, but I tried to caution him to keep quiet, as we had left the scene. Unknown to me, the stray bullet hit the boy. It was his twin brother who said: ‘Daddy, stop, Taiwo has been shot’.

“As I parked to bring the boy out, the policemen and officials of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority were running after me.

“In the process, I held onto one of them. People gathered and rushed the boy to the hospital, and, from there, he was taken to UCH. Unfortunately, when we got there, he gave up the ghost.”

When asked whether he was a suspect, the father said: “No.”

He, however, explained that “one of the officials opened the back door and saw that they were kids in the vehicle. I didn’t know they were chasing after Yahoo boys or not. I was just taking my children to school.

“It was his elder brother that was writing his WAEC, the one that was shot was in SS1 and would have been 14 by November 26,” he lamented.

He also revealed that he and his wife have been separated for seven years.

He said: “Their mother abandoned us seven years ago, and I made a promise to myself to give my children the best life possible. I’ve worked tirelessly to provide for them, often sacrificing my needs.

“I have turned down opportunities to remarry because I wanted to focus on raising my kids. I often wonder which woman would accept me and my situation without jeopardising their well-being.”

With tears streaming down his face, Alade, who made a heartfelt plea for justice for his son, said: “This cannot go unpunished. I want those responsible to be held accountable. No parent should have to endure the pain of losing a child in such a senseless manner.

“Kehinde was a bright boy with dreams and aspirations. He loved school and was excited about his future, and now all of that has been stolen from us.

“I need to understand why this happened. My son had so much potential, and it feels incredibly unfair that his life was cut short due to a reckless decision by those who are supposed to protect us. I demand answers, and I want to ensure that no other family has to suffer this unbearable loss.”

IGP Egbetokun has ordered an investigation into the tragic incident.

The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to restart another phase of free food distribution to the poorest and most vulnerable residents across the state under its Food Security Programme.

Governor Pastor Umo Eno made the disclosure during a meeting with his 368 Ward Personal Assistants (PAs) at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Uyo.

The Governor urged the PAs to show unwavering commitment to the programme by ensuring the food palliatives reach the intended beneficiaries.

As an added motivation, Governor Eno announced a 100% increase in the monthly salary of the ward PAs—from ₦250,000 to ₦500,000—effective November 2024. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause and a resounding declaration of support for the Governor’s leadership beyond 2027.

In a message of appreciation, Aniefiok James, Dean of the College of Ward Personal Assistants, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s continuous support and commitment to both their welfare and the broader interests of Akwa Ibom people. Abeks, a photographer and content creator, posted a video from a service at the White church she attends and listed three reasons for her decision to stop going to Nigerian churches in Canada.

On TikTok, she explained that the first reason is the church’s style of teaching, which she finds relatable and grounded in real-life examples.

Secondly, she noted their approach to praise and worship. Although she enjoys the high-energy worship common in Nigerian churches, she prefers the calm and peaceful atmosphere of her current church, which helps her stay focused and at ease.
