The Village Head of Mantau in Yam-Maulu community in Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State, Iliya Dakaci, has been removed.

The Emir of Daura in Katsina State, Faruq Umar-Faruq, announced this on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The decision announced in Daura by the emir followed a protest by the residents of the area, demanding his removal over his alleged involvement in kidnapping.

The residents of the area had last Wednesday staged a peaceful protest, calling for the removal of Dakaci, who was also the representative of the District Head of Yan-Maulu.

The protesters said Dakaci was arrested about eight months ago, after his name was mentioned by suspected kidnappers who abducted and raped the family of a philanthropist in the area, Sidi Usman-Waziri.

The protesters accused the dethroned monarch of playing a direct role in the abduction of a married woman, Zulaihatu, and her infant child in 2022, until N20 million ransom was paid.

The emir reiterated that the Daura emirate would not tolerate any form of abuse against the residents, emphasising that the council remains open to all the citizens who wish to file complaints or report injustices.

He said: “If anyone feels wronged, even if it’s my own child who is responsible, they should come forward and present their complaint to the emirate.

“This is an emirate of the people.”

Effective from Monday, May 19, the emir announced that Dakaci ceases to be the village head of Mantau, adding that a new representative would be appointed to ensure a leadership based on justice and integrity.

 

A newly wedded Nigerian woman has begged the Sharia court, Samaru, Gusau, Zamfara state, to dissolve the union to her husband after just one week of marriage over a horrible sexual experience.

It was gathered Aisha Dannupuwa, a mother of three, told the court that she decided to marry another man after her first marriage failed.

In her statement, she disclosed that the tradition demanded, she moved into his parents’ house and finally into her husband’s home, where they had sexual intercourse.

“When he came, we had sex but the experience was a nightmare. Instead of enjoying the sex, it turned out to be something else because his penis was too big,” she told the court.

Aisha Dannupuwa revealed she has been in gave pain in her private part due to the horrible sexual experience prompting her to take native medication prepared by her mother, who assured her that she would get used to it.

“Two days later when he came to visit me, we had s3x again, but the experience was too much to bear. It was then I knew that I could not continue with the marriage because of the size of his p3nis.” she added

However, the husband has agreed to his wife’s confession as he further pleads for the one-week-old marriage to be dissolved.

The House of Representatives has approved a 10-year security protection for investigative journalist Umar Audu, following his exposé on widespread certificate racketeering involving degree mills in the Benin Republic.

Audu’s undercover investigation uncovered a syndicate that facilitates the sale of unearned university certificates to Nigerians, many of which are then fraudulently cleared by government agencies, including the Ministry of Education.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the joint House Committees on University, Polytechnic, Interior, Foreign Affairs, and Youth Development are currently probing the scandal.

Rep. Abubakar Fulata, Chairman of the Committee, announced the House’s directive and called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to ensure Audu’s safety for the next decade.

“We are grateful to Audu for his courage. We urge the Minister of Interior to ensure that the Civil Defence provides the required support alongside the police,” Fulata said.

In his testimony before the committee, Audu detailed how he acquired a Benin Republic university degree without attending classes and had it cleared by the ministry of education for a fee of N40,000.

Reacting to the revelations, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, advocated for the creation of an automated single-point contact system to centralise educational verification and eliminate such fraud.

“Such an error did not occur under this administration. However, a unified, automated portal is essential to curb this menace,” Tunji-Ojo noted, while also apologising to Nigerians for the lapses.

The Minister of Education, Mr Olatunji Alausa, was represented by a Director in the ministry, Mrs Larai Ahmed.

Alausa confirmed that the department responsible for clearing Audu’s certificate had been overhauled, and stronger measures were being implemented to prevent future breaches.

Also appearing before the committee, NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, revealed that the corps had begun using biometric verification to validate certificates submitted by prospective corps members.

“We deeply regret the anomaly and are collaborating with relevant agencies.

“Our verification system is now stronger, and we have initiated reforms to prevent any recurrence,” Nafiu assured.

The House committee reaffirmed its commitment to concluding a thorough investigation and enforcing reforms to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s education and public service systems.

Recall that Investigative journalist, Umar Audu, has given more information on how simple it was to obtain a certificate from Cotonou-based University in Benin Republic in less than six weeks.

Audu revealed a thriving certificate racketeering syndicate in neighbouring African nations like Benin Republic and Togo, which specializes in selling university degrees to willing buyers in Nigeria, in his investigative report titled “How Daily Nigerian reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in 6 weeks.”

According to him, the certificate was delivered like pizza after payment was made.

“This certificate will be delivered to you just like you ordered a pizza or something and you give them your location and it is delivered to you. That was what motivated me to conduct this investigation,” he said on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

“We have done a similar investigation in the past in 2018, which led to the government taking certain decisions. These things keep going on despite pronouncements by the Federal Government.”

The undercover reporter obtained a transcript from the school with the real scan code of the concerned institution.

The transcript and certificate were reasonably priced and included the genuine scan code of the Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies, ESGT, Benin Republic.

The Federal Government was compelled by his inquiry to halt the assessment and accreditation of degree credentials from Togo and the Benin Republic.

According to the certificate issued, the journalist commenced his programme in 2018 and graduated on September 5, 2022. He thereafter used the fake certificate to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme without being detected.

A tragic incident involving a boy who accidentally shot his sister while playing with their father’s hunting gun has surfaced online, sparking outrage and concern.

The heartbreaking story was shared by a police officer identified as @Brightgoldenboy on X (formerly Twitter).

In his post, he clarified that the content wasn’t meant to target any religion, ethnic group, or gender, but to serve as a warning to the public.

According to the officer, a hunter carelessly left his long-range single-barrel gun within reach of his children.

His son, who had reportedly played with the gun on several occasions, accidentally triggered it while handling it again — fatally shooting his sister.

In the video, the officer stated: “This long-range single-barrel gun belongs to the father of one of the suspects. The father is the suspect because his carelessness is the reason we’re here today.”

He added that the boy admitted he had been playing with the gun for some time. “One fateful day, he was playing with the gun, it went off, and killed his own sister — the daughter of the gun’s owner.”

The father, when questioned, explained that he inherited the gun from his own father and used it for hunting, but was unaware his son had access to it.

He said, “The gun na my father gun, na hunt I dey use am dey do.”

The boy, in the video, also revealed his age and spoke briefly about the incident.

Recall that a corps member recently slammed the federal government after sharing a video of the school he was posted to by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), where the corps member gave a glimpse of the poor learning conditions at the school.

In the footage, students from different classes can be seen carrying out academic activities in a makeshift structure built with woods and sticks, used both as walls and class dividers.

Expressing his frustration, the corps member narrated the condition of the school, lamenting that this was where he was assigned to teach.

Ghanaian immigration officials have detained over 2,000 undocumented foreign nationals in Accra, in a major operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks and curbing street begging.

Authorities said the early Friday raids led to the arrest of 2,241 individuals, including 1,332 children.

 

In a statement, Ghana Immigration Services said the operation was part of broader efforts to address rising concerns over organised street begging allegedly involving foreign nationals.

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, in a post on Facebook, said the campaign was launched to counter an activity that “poses a national security risk and damages the image of our country.”

Mubarak noted that many of the individuals had entered Ghana through “unapproved routes, bypassing essential immigration” procedures.

Those apprehended came primarily from neighbouring countries, including the junta-led Burkina Faso and Togo, with others originating from Nigeria and beyond.Nigerian home decor ideas

Authorities plan to carry out security and medical screenings before repatriating the individuals to their countries of origin. Officials have pledged to conduct the process with full respect for human rights, stressing their commitment to professionalism.

The crackdown drew a mixed response from locals. John Gyamfi, a 43-year-old spare parts dealer, supported the move, calling it “long overdue.” He claimed, “Some of these foreigners engage in prostitution and street begging. It’s embarrassing: they come here and people think they are Ghanaians and they embarrass the good name of Ghana. If they go, the streets will be neat again.”

However, some of the detained migrants said their presence in Ghana was driven by humanitarian need rather than crime. Chamsiya Alhassan, a mother from Niger, told AFP as she queued for a bus, “Finding food has become a problem for us. Our husbands and relatives have been killed. We are here only to find something to eat.”

A former member of the Eiye confraternity’s Dawadawa Perch, Raji Jameel, has publicly renounced membership after growing tired of the violence and chaos associated with cultism.

Jameel followed proper procedures by relocating, informing local security, and submitting his resignation to his perch to alert other members.

Jameel now identifies as a “Jew Man”, a term used to identify non-cultist, as he hopes his decision will inspire others to leave the violent lifestyle.

According to a post on the Naija Confra X handle, many cultists are willing to quit but for fear lack support, urging the government to create safe programs and structure to encourage more exits.

The post reads: ” An Eiye (NAA) member, Raji Jameel, has publicly renounced his membership after seeing the daily violence and other problems caused by cultism. He followed all the required steps, changed location, informed security in his new area, and sent his resignation letter to the Eiye platform of his choice (Dawadawa Perch-Nasarawa State) to help spread the news to other Eiye cultists.

“Many cultists are tired and want to leave. If the government creates a good structure and safe space for those who want to renounce, many will come out.

“Raji Jameel, a former Eiye (NAA) cultist is now a J€w Man.Raji wanted his full details and video posted because he’s tired of the game. He wanted everything out, but we advised him not to go that far. This was his final decision after our talks.”

 

A suspected kidnapper in his 20s has said he cannot recall the number of children his gang had taken from Ilorin, Kwara State.

He made the startling confession on Friday when he was caught in the state capital. The suspect was almost lynched but for the intervention of a police team on routine patrol.

In a trending video, the suspect, with bruises on his face and other parts of the body, said he couldn’t remember the number of children his team had kidnapped in Ilorin for money ritual.

He mentioned the names of other members of the gang. Also, he told the mob that their team leader resides in Dagbolu, a suburb of Osogbo, Osun State capital.

Furthermore, the suspect said that he was given N10 million by the team leader to carry out the kidnapping act.

Spokesperson of Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Adetoun, confirmed in a statement issued in Ilorin that the suspect was now in the Police custody, undergoing interrogation.

However, Adetoun cautioned residents of Kwara State against mob action and jungle justice, stressing that, “such acts are not only unlawful but can also result in the miscarriage of justice.

“Members of the public are strongly advised to report all suspicious activities to the nearest police station rather than resort to self-help or violence.

“The Kwara State Police Command is aware of a video circulating the media space of a young man, who was accused and apprehended for child kidnapping in Ilorin.

“The Command wishes to inform members of the public that on Friday, 16th May, 2025, at about 7 p.m., operatives of the Kwara State Police Command apprehended an adult male (name unknown) for alleged child kidnapping in Ilorin.

“The suspect, who claimed he was from Osun State, was apprehended by a joint patrol team of police operatives and community vigilante members during a routine operation.

“He was rescued from a violent mob who had accused him of attempted kidnap of a child, and were on the verge of executing jungle justice.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to ascertain the facts surrounding the allegations and identify other individuals who may be connected to this incident.

“The complainant(s) involved are yet to report at command headquarters to provide more information to aid police detectives in unraveling this incident.

“Further updates will be provided as investigations unfold,” the statement said.

 

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has stated that Nigeria requires an annual investment of $10 billion over the next 20 years to achieve a stable and reliable electricity supply.

Adelabu made this known during the commissioning of a 2.5-megawatt solar hybrid power plant at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna State.

He attributed the persistent power challenges to decades of underinvestment, poor infrastructure maintenance, and the failure to modernize and expand the national transmission grid.

According to him, these issues have compounded over more than 60 years, creating a significant infrastructure deficit in the power sector.

“For us to achieve functional, reliable, and stable electricity in Nigeria, we need at least $10 billion annually for the next 20 years. But there is some foundational bottleneck that we experienced in the past that needs to be fixed for the spending of this money to have meaning.
“Number 1 is the legislative and policy foundation which this administration has achieved by signing into an act as the first bill in 2023 by President Bola Tinubu immediately he resumed.

“This bill has achieved liberation and decentralisation of the power sector to enable all levels of government — federal, state, and local governments — to legally and morally play roles in the power sector to give their citizens at sub-national levels electricity.

“This act has given autonomy to more than 11 states, and more are still coming. They can now play roles in the power sector from generation to transmission to distribution and even metering.

“We talk about infrastructure deficit, then we talk about fixing infrastructure deficit, which has piled up over the last 60 years due to lack of maintenance, lack of additional investment to revive our transmission grid.”
