Terrifying bodycam footage released by the Fountain Valley Police Department captures the moment a California police officer begged for her life after a suspect stole her service weapon—just moments before her partner fatally shot the man.

The video, taken on January 24 in Fountain Valley, Orange County, shows a disturbing confrontation with 26-year-old Osean McClintock, who appeared shirtless and agitated. At one point, the suspect forcibly wrestled the gun from the screaming female officer, prompting a desperate plea: “Please don’t shoot me!”

Throughout the encounter, McClintock repeatedly shouted, “You’re saved in Jesus’ name forever,” before grabbing the officer’s weapon in a chaotic scuffle captured by multiple bodycams.

Police were initially responding to a report of someone attempting to get into an occupied vehicle near Kazuo Masuda Middle School. An officer approached McClintock, who appeared disoriented and barefoot on a grassy median.

“You’re not in trouble or anything, man. I just need to talk to you,” the officer said calmly. McClintock asked to be taken to someone named “Jonathan,” and the situation remained calm until the officer tried to guide him into a patrol vehicle.

“I don’t have to,” McClintock suddenly snapped. When the officer insisted, he took off running, chanting prayers and eventually making his way to a nearby parking lot after stopping at a gas station and bank.

Moments later, bodycam footage shows the female officer in a violent struggle with McClintock, who managed to wrestle her handgun from her. Her partner, responding urgently, radioed, “She’s in a fight. Code 3,” as he sprinted toward the scene.

“Put it down, dude! Put it down!” the male officer shouted after McClintock ignored commands and climbed into the female officer’s squad car with the stolen weapon.

When McClintock refused to surrender the gun, the officer fired 10 rounds into the vehicle, killing him at the scene.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Fountain Valley Police Department are both investigating the shooting. No officers were injured in the incident.

McClintock’s family later revealed he had struggled with chronic health issues, including hemophilia, joint swelling, and muscle bleeds. They also noted that he had recently endured the loss of two close relatives.

“He would walk through the parks every night looking for anyone to help—including neighbors and the homeless,” his family wrote in a GoFundMe appeal to raise funeral expenses. “Osean was a Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and a Servant of God.”

Actress Mary Njoku has sparked a conversation on the relevance of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations in Nigeria’s higher education system.

In a recent post on Instagram, Njoku shared her personal struggles with the exam, revealing that she failed it multiple times before eventually finding success in her acting career.

Reflecting on her experience, she questioned whether JAMB is truly necessary for university admissions.

Njoku argued that the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) should be enough to determine a student’s eligibility for tertiary education.

She wrote: “Why is it necessary to take the JAMB exams to gain admission into universities? Isn’t the SSCE sufficient? I don’t understand the need for JAMB+ post-JAMB when the SSCE already shows we’ve completed Secondary School.

“Speaking from experience, JAMB almost ‘jammed’ my life. Literally.
After sitting for it multiple times without admission, I thank God for NOLLYWOOD. That detour gave me purpose, but honestly, if you ask me (I know nobody is asking), I truly believe JAMB should be scrapped.

“Why should students who already passed the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) be forced to jump through yet another hoop? If universities want to be selective, they can ask for more credits, like A’s and B’s in key subjects. That’s fair. But JAMB? It discourages thousands of bright, capable young people every single year. My thoughts.”

The House of Representatives has passed through Second Reading a bill seeking to impose six months imprisonment or N100,000 fine on non-voting citizens in the general elections.

The private member bill which seeks to amend the Electoral Act, 2002 was sponsored by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Hon. Daniel Ago, seeks to make it mandatory for Nigerians of maturity age refuse to vote in all national and state elections and for related matters.

The proposed bill seeks to amend the provisions of Sections 9(1), 10(1), 12(1b), and 47.

Clause 2 of the bill seeks to amend Section 9 of the Principal Act by substituting for Section 9(1a), a new Section 9(1a) which states that: “The Commission shall compile, maintain, and update, on a continuous basis, a National Register of Voters (in this Act referred to as ‘the Register of Voters’) which shall include the names of all persons (a) who have attained the maturity age of 18 and are entitled to vote in any Federal, State, Local Government or Federal Capital Territory Area Council election; and’

“Clause 5 of the bill also seeks to amend Section 47 by inserting a Sub-Section 47(4) after Sub-Section 47(3).

“Section 47(4a) of the Electoral Act 2022 It shall be mandatory for all registered voters who ha e attained the Majority Age of 18 and above to vote in all National and State Elections.”

“(b) A person who has attained the Majority Age of 18 years who refuses to perform his civic duty to vote commits an offence and is liable on conviction. to a fine not more than N100,000 or imprisonment for a term not more than six months.”

According to the explanatory memoradum of the bill, it seeks to remedy the large scale apathy to performing a vital civic duty in electing Nigerian leaders. The percentage of Registered Voters that present themselves for actual voting is abysmally low and requires parliamentary attention.

In his lead debate, Hon. Ago expressed the need to address the persistent issue of low voter turnout in Nigeria’s electoral process and strengthen democratic participation.

While describing voting as both a right and civic duty, Hon. Ago harped on the need for active citizens’ engagement is vital for any thriving democracy.

He noted that making voting mandatory would reduce apathy and increase political inclusiveness.

However, several lawmakers across party lines, including Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante, Hon. Mark Esset and Hon. Ghali Mustapha expressed grave concerns over the feasibility of enforcing compulsory voting.

The lawmakers expressed worry on the implementation of the legislation, the integrity of the voter register, especially in rural and conflict-prone areas and whether it would be fair to penalize citizens in a system where electoral outcomes are often disputed.

The lawmakers also alleged that the bill poses a breach on individual freedom and the risk of forced participation in the electoral processes.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu and Hon. Akarachi Amadi who spoke in support of the proposed legislation argued that mandatory participation would deepen civic engagement and ownership of Nigeria’s democracy.

In his intervention, Speaker Tajudeen argued that the proposed bill would deepen Nigeria’s democratic culture and compel citizens to take ownership of the nation’s leadership selection process.

When the Speaker put the voice vote, despite the overwhelming ‘nay’ voice vote against the ‘Aye’, Speaker Tajudeen ruled in favour of the few lawmakers who supported the bill and referred the bill to the House Committee on Electoral Matters for further legislative action.

Pastor Bolaji Idowu, lead Pastor, Harvesters International Christian Center (HICC), explains why people should not date when they are jobless.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially announced the commencement date for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course.

According to the management, the orientation exercise will begin on Wednesday, 11th June 2025.

This information was made public in a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations.

Prospective Corps Members, parents, and guardians are advised to take note of the date and prepare accordingly.

NYSC also urged all stakeholders to follow its official social media platforms for timely updates and important announcements.

The orientation course is a vital part of the national service and includes training, lectures, and other preparatory activities for corps members.

Recall that the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General OO Nafiu, has urged corps members to spend their N77,000 allowance wisely and focus on making positive impacts in their communities.

In a virtual broadcast to the 2025 Batch “A” Stream I corps members, beamed from Lagos, Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the importance of financial prudence and advised them to prioritize needs over wants.

He reminded them that responsible financial decisions would help them build a better future.

The NYSC DG also highlighted the importance of health and safety, urging corps members to take advantage of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) coverage available to them.

He warned against unnecessary travel, stressing that any travel must be officially approved to ensure their safety.

Addressing youth empowerment, the DG encouraged corps members to build on the skills they acquired during the in-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training.

He urged them to become wealth creators by accessing loans provided through NYSC’s partner institutions.

Brigadier General Nafiu also cautioned corps members against the spread of fake news and hate speech, noting that such acts could threaten national unity.

He appealed to them to use social media responsibly and to always promote peace and unity across the country.

He reassured the corps members of the management’s sustained commitment to their welfare, promising continued support throughout their service year.

In other news, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in his address to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members at the Iyana-Ipaja Orientation camp, Lagos, has urged the corps members to create and leave lasting impact during their service year as they exit the camp.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Honourable Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, the Honourable Commissioner of Youth and Social Development, Lagos state, described the orientation programme as a critical foundation for national service, encouraging the corps members to embrace their primary assignments across the State as opportunities to contribute meaningfully to Lagos and Nigeria at large.

He applauded their enthusiasm for the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and urged them to continue post-camp training, noting its importance in building self-reliance amidst limited job opportunities

The Governor also emphasized on the NYSC’s core mission of promoting national unity and advised corps members to be ambassadors of peace and integration in their host communities.

He reassured them of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to their welfare and security.

Also speaking at the event, the State Coordinator, Mrs Christiana Salmwang commended the corps members for their discipline and patriotism. According to her, 5,943 corps members comprising 2,538 males and 3,405 females successfully completed the 3-week orientation programme.

The State coordinator urged the corps members to put to use their training in their place of assignment, respect host communities, avoid unauthorized travel, and always carry their ID cards to ensure a smooth service year.

Adeola, the 41-year-old daughter of veteran Yoruba actress Jumoke George, has been found in Mali after being declared missing for four years.

Jumoke had earlier revealed the disappearance during an interview on the Talk to B show hosted by actress Abiola Bayo. She stated that Adeola had been living with her grandmother in Ibadan and was last seen after informing the family she was travelling to Lagos.

According to Jumoke, Adeola later made contact, asked for forgiveness, and explained she had travelled out of the country with friends in search of better opportunities.

In the same interview, Jumoke disclosed that she had been battling serious health and financial issues. She said her condition had prevented her from honouring acting jobs, leading her to refund payments and borrow funds for medical treatment. She noted that further medical tests were required, with an estimated cost of N400,000.

She explained that any money she earned from occasional jobs was spent on efforts to find her missing daughter.

Speaking in tears on the TalkToB show hosted by fellow actress, Abiola Adebayo, Jumoke said she hid her predicament due to shame and fear of public ridicule.

She said, “There are some things that are embarrassing to say but at this point, I have no choice. I want to speak out. I am working but it’s not like I get jobs every time.

“Sometimes, it could be once in three to four months. That was before I became ill. After I became ill, I couldn’t go for a set I was invited to. Someone paid me last year, I didn’t know I would get sick, I spent the money on treatment. I had to borrow money to refund the person.

“I went to another location but I couldn’t work. They had to bring me back because of my health. I’ve done several tests. I was told to do some more which will cost about N400,000. I don’t know where to get the money from.”

“My first child, Adeola, has been missing. I’ve been looking for her for the past four years. Any small money I get from working was spent on looking for her.

“She was in Ibadan where she was working and living with my mother. So my mother just called me one day to say that she hasn’t seen Deola who said she was coming to meet me in Lagos. I said I haven’t seen her,” Jumoke recalled.

In an update shared on Wednesday, Talk to B host Biola Bayo revealed Adeola had been found in Mali. She said she spoke with Adeola via video call and although the daughter had not yet spoken directly with her mother, Jumoke was relieved to know she was alive.

Biola also confirmed that Jumoke George is currently receiving treatment at a state hospital in Lagos and is awaiting further medical evaluation.

Sharing the details of her video call with Adeola on Instagram, Biola Bayo said “I finally got to speak with Adeola and this is what she said. She hasn’t called her mom, but Mom is happy she’s alive.

“#Jumoke George is currently at a state hospital in Lagos.

“Hopefully she will be discharged or admitted after all her medical tests and reports. Not sure yet. Thank you to everyone for the support”.

A powerful windstorm accompanied by rainfall has destroyed at least 300 houses and damaged property worth millions of naira in several communities across Katsina State, leaving many residents homeless.

The storm, which struck on Wednesday evening shortly after Asr prayers, lasted for about 15 minutes but caused widespread devastation.

Witnesses reported scenes of rooftops and rafters flying through the air as structures gave way to the force of the wind.

Among the affected communities are Sabuwar Unguwar Modoji Gabas, Shinkafi, Kukar-Gesa, Ambassador Quarters, and parts of Jibia Local Government Area.

Many victims, including a newly married couple, are now calling on the Katsina State Government and kind-hearted individuals for urgent assistance, citing the ongoing economic hardship.

Maryam Muhammad, one of the victims, recounted her ordeal:

“During the storm, I was inside my room when it collapsed on me. I sustained injuries to my leg and arm. Thank God my children were at Islamiyya school at the time. I built that room using everything I had. We desperately need both divine and government intervention.”

Another victim, Mubarak Rabi’u, expressed similar sentiments, “We’ve accepted this tragedy as God’s will, but we need help. As I speak, we have no idea where our families will go. We are struggling to survive.”

The Ward Head of Sabuwar Unguwar Modoji Gabas, Aminu Jafaru, urged the Katsina State Government and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to visit the affected areas and assess the scale of destruction.

“It was a terrifying windstorm that destroyed dozens of homes within minutes. Without government support, many residents will remain displaced. We appeal to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to send a delegation immediately to evaluate the situation and assist those in need,” he pleaded.

The Inspector-General (IGP) of Police, on Thursday, re-arraigned controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan (VDM), for allegedly cyberbullying actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.

VDM was also alleged to have cyberbullied famous Nigerian producer and singer Samuel Oguachuba, also known as Samklef, among others.

He was re-arraigned before Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a five-count charge.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge .

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, prayed the court to allow VDM to continue on the earlier bail granted by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of a sister court.

Counsel to the IGP, Victor Okoye, did not object, and the judge admitted him to the earlier bail terms and adjourned the matter until July 24 for trial.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that VDM had, on May 22, 2024, been arraigned before Justice Olajuwon on the same offences contrary to and punishable under Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

He was remanded and granted a ₦10 million bail on June 10, 2024, by the judge with two sureties who must be employees of reputable companies or Level 17 officers in a federal civil service with evidence of three years’ tax clearance.

The charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/140/2024, dated and filed on March 28, 2024, was, however, re-assigned to Justice Liman, following Justice Olajuwon’s transfer to another division of the Federal High Court.

In count one, VDM was alleged to have, on or about Oct. 13, 2023, intentionally published via a video posted on his Instagram handle ‘verydarkblackman’ (aka verydarkblackman) threatening and bullying words to harass Samuel Oguachuba.

In count two, he was alleged to have, on or about Oct 29, 2023, intentionally posted videos by means of a computer system on his Instagram handles which contained information that was grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character against Iyabo Ojo.

In the video, he was alleged to have stated that “one Ivabo Ojo is having an indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.”

VDM was also accused of having, on or about Jan. 19, 2024, knowingly posted videos on his Instagram handles where he “falsely published that King Tonto Dikeh is accused of criminal conversion of the proceeds of crowdfunding for the Justice for Mobbad Movement and being the person behind the Gistlover blog.”

In count four, the defendant was alleged to have intentionally posted videos on March 19, 2024, on his Instagram handle against the Deputy-Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Police and lawmakers in the National Assembly considered to be annoying and insulting.

The abductors of the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nelson Adepoyigi, have seized two persons who had volunteered to deliver the N5 million ransom to release the party chieftain

Following the development the kidnappers are now demanding N30 million to release Adepoyigi and the two bearers of the ransom, Bayode Loco and Isimeri.

The APC ward chairman was abducted around 10 p.m. on Monday outside his residence in Ifon, where the gunmen assaulted him before forcibly taking him away.

With the development plunging the victim’s family and political circles into another rounds of turmoil and panic, sources within the community disclosed everyone is now confused over the situation.

After initially demanding N100 million, the kidnappers had lowered the ransom to N5 million and food items after negotiations.

However, upon receiving the N5 million, they reneged, demanding N30 million for the trio’s safe return with the development intensifying fears among Adepoyigi’s family and political allies, who had hoped for the return of the APC chieftain.

One of the sources, who craved anonymity stated that “those who took the ransom to them, as agreed during negotiations, were held by the same kidnappers.

“They have now turned around to demand a fresh N30 million before they can release all three of them.”

While confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ose Local Council Area of the state, Kolapo Oja, revealed that during an earlier negotiation with the the kidnappers, the N100 milliom ransom had been reduced to N5 million as well as food items.

Oja, who expressed concern over the turn of events appealed for calm while security operatives in the state intensify efforts to rescue the victims unhurt.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has challenged media personality and former presidential aide, Dr. Reuben Abati, to a street fight over the repeated on-air criticisms against him by Abati.
Oshiomole gave the challenge during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Tuesday night, May 13.

Visibly agitated during the interview, Oshiomole accused Abati of persistently attacking him from the comfort of the Arise News Channel studio without offering fair context or acknowledging his contributions to national development.
“If you want to abuse me, don’t hide under the TV. Let us meet on the streets and we fight it out,” Oshiomhole said, responding to what he described as Abati’s “consistent mischief and misrepresentation.”

He further criticised Abati for ‘downplaying’ his labour activism legacy, stating;

“Even on Labour Day, he couldn’t credit me for leading protests. This is the same guy who once wrote, ‘Oshiomhole, the People’s President,’ when I was NLC president. Now he is asking, ‘What is my status?’”

Addressing Abati’s antecedents, Oshiomhole reminded listeners that Abati had alleedly once criticised former President Goodluck Jonathan, only to later accept a role as his official spokesman.
“You don’t condemn pounded yam and end up consuming it all over. After all that, the EFCC arrested him. Was I the one who granted him bail? Now he has left PDP and is where he is?”he said

He went on to suggest that Abati’s attitude might be influenced by political disappointment. “If you are angry because you wanted to become a deputy governor and you lost the election in Ogun State, is that the reason why you are so paranoid?”
