A SS2 student of a private secondary school on Watchman Street in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, faked her own kidnapping and demanded a ransom of N2million from her family.

The 16-year-old girl allegedly contacted her brother, claiming she had been kidnapped.

The spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, who disclosed to reporters on Monday, May 12, 2025 said that a family friend helped her plan the hoax.

According to the PPRO, the teenager is a native of Izzi Local Government Area and was due to return to school for the third term on Saturday.

The girl told police she had gone to buy second-hand clothes, known locally as ‘Okirika’, when someone tapped her from behind.

She claimed to have lost consciousness and woke up the next day at Ishieke Junction in Ebonyi Local Government Area.

She added that she often dreams of being kidnapped, and her mother regularly prayed against it.

Upon regaining consciousness, she asked for directions back to Abakaliki town.

Instead of returning home, she went to the house of a family friend who had no idea she was missing.

Using the man’s phone, she messaged her brother, claiming she had been kidnapped and demanded N2 million ransom.

Her brother asked to speak with the kidnappers and requested their location, but she refused and blocked his number.

Later, she unblocked his number and sent an account number belonging to the family friend hosting her.

Unfortunately for her, the phone was tracked. Police raided the house and arrested everyone involved in the plot.

Ukandu confirmed that the command has launched a full investigation into the incident.

The girl has since been reunited with her family, though the matter remains under police investigation due to her age.

Winners of the Corprenuership Competition have emerged at the 2025 Batch A, Stream 1 orientation course, Bayelsa state.

 

The panel of judges arrived at the winners after they submitted their business proposals and defended the ideas contained therein.

 

In her remarks, the representative of The Unity Bank Yenagoa, Mrs RoseMary Olomu said the gesture was a corporate social responsibility activity of the bank to promote creativity and provide grants for corps members to start up various businesses during and after their service year.

 

Congratulating the winners, the State Coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity who was represented by the Camp Director, Mrs Essien Ena Omawumi commended their moral courage and initiative to develop, submit and defend their business ideas.

 

She urged the winners to judiciously use the funds for the purpose provided for.
She thanked the unity Bank for the financial assistance and opportunity given to corps members to actualise and improve on their business dreams.

 

The over all winner was awarded # 800,000 Others got #500,000, #300,000 respectively.

 

There was also consolation gifts for 7 other corps members who participated in the competition.

 

In other news, the corps members of Bayelsa state celebrated our diverse cultural heritage today during 2025 Batch A stream one cultural carnival held at NYSC Permanent orientation camp, Boro town ,Kaima in Kolukuma/opkuma LGA.

 

In her opening remarks the
State Coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity described our culture as our identity which embodies, our language, food, dressing, our craft , ceremonies etc. She further stressed that cultural carnival is a true symbol of unity, cultural integration necessary for national development.

 

She also charged them to avoid cultural bigotry, biases, superiority which hinder national integration and development. She informed them that Cultural carnival is a platform provided by the Scheme for corps members to show case some of our diverse cultural heritage and therefore appreciate our multi cultural society.

 

While urging them to respect other people’s cultures, the State coordinator enjoined the corps members to promote them.

 

She expressed joy seeing corps members from other cultural background dressed up, singing and dancing passionately for cultures other than the their own .She urged them to avoid borrowed foreign cultures that are inimical to our national identity and development.

 

She enjoined all camp officials and corps members to preserve, respect and promote our cultural heritage wherever they may find ourselves within or outside the country because our culture is our Power ,Strength and Pride.

In her vote of thanks, the Head of Socials Committee, Mrs Ochie Adline thanked God and commended the State Coordinator, Camp officials for their support towards the success of the socials activities on camp.

Honourable Yusuf Adamu Gadgi, a member of the House of Representatives, has claimed that Boko Haram insurgents have seized military assets worth trillions of Naira during attacks on military bases across Nigeria’s North-East region. Nigerian home decor ideas

Gadgi made the statement while contributing to a motion moved by Honourable Ahmed Satomi from Borno State.

The motion addressed the recent fire outbreak at a military arms depot in Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, and the increasing attacks by Boko Haram in Borno and Yobe states.

Gadgi claimed that the scale of destruction being inflicted by insurgents on military equipment is unprecedented.

He warned that failure to take swift and decisive action could have dire consequences.

He said: “I was shocked by what Boko Haram did at Giwa Barracks and other military facilities. There’s a serious threat to the security and safety of Nigerians, and even to the country itself.”

Gadgi pointed out that the National Assembly had allocated significant funds for the purchase of over 40 combat vehicles and other weapons for the military, amounting to trillions of naira, to ensure the protection of citizens.

“How can we guarantee the safety of the people under such conditions, when insurgents can seize these weapons?” he asked.

“The National Assembly is doing its best to address security matters, but government agencies must also take responsibility. The President must launch an investigation into the conduct of top military commanders and other security agencies, and take appropriate action.

“We must also summon these agencies to explain why they are failing in their duties.”

The lawmaker cautioned that continued negligence from the government and its security apparatus would erode public trust—posing a major threat to political leadership and national stability.

“If action is not taken quickly, Nigerians may be forced to defend themselves, and they could begin to see us, their leaders, as enemies—just like they see Boko Haram,” he warned

A former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has doubted the political relevance of politician, Peter Obi and the Labour Party, saying they do not represent real political opposition in Nigeria.Nigerian home decor ideas

Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources on Sunday, May 12, Sowore described Obi’s political relevance as a temporary phenomenon that failed to challenge the ruling elite.

“In terms of real opposition, I don’t know why anybody refers to Peter Obi as one. He hasn’t fought for the mandate he claimed or mobilised his supporters,” Sowore said criticising the former Anambra governor for failing to speak out against key national issues like fuel price hikes.

Sowore described the Labour Party as a “short rental” political platform.

“What they call Airbnb in America. You move in, check out when your time expires. When they’re done with Peter Obi, they’ll move it to someone else,” he said.

Sowore further suggested Obi’s popularity during the 2023 elections was rooted in religious sentiment sparked by the APC’s controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He challenged Obi’s supporters, saying

“If you can’t put 60,000 people in the streets, then you’re not serious about opposition.”

In swift response, the Obidient Movement dismissed Sowore’s comments as baseless. The National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, defended Obi’s continued influence, stating that his every move still shapes national discourse.

“If Peter Obi is not a threat, why do they always talk about him? Whether he speaks or breathes, it makes news. That’s relevance,” Tanko said during a phone interview with Channels Television.

 

Let me start this piece with a common saying on social media. If you are in the habit of complaining people are stingy, it might be an indication that you are begging too much.

Well, much has been said about people in the United Kingdom being tight-fisted. To a large extent, I am of the opinion that this is true and could be attributed to some of the reasons explained below:

(1) Culture:

The United Kingdom just like most Western countries has embraced individualism. The system of every man for himself. In Africa, it is collectivism which simply means ‘Let’s do it as a family, let’s grow together’ You will hardly see the core Britons help each other financially. They will rather rely on credit facilities from banks, credit cards, and benefits to survive tough financial times. This is unlike Nigeria where ‘billing’ is almost cultural in the 21st century due to age-long systemic poverty.

(2) Littany of lies:

Some Nigerians are in the business of cooking up comprehensive and water-tight lies to extort money from their family members abroad. Personally, I have friends who have abandoned their WhatsApp accounts to avoid hearing countless touching stories from friends and acquaintances in Nigeria. To cope with the virus of lies, people in the UK have adopted a firewall to block all intrusions.

(3) Hustle is hard:

Life in the UK is historically difficult, and in recent times, things have gotten tougher for the 6th largest economy in the world due to the growing population, Brexit, COVID-19, and other issues. People work round the clock, under extreme weather conditions, to earn money and the cost of living is too high. As of 2020/2021, employees were chasing people for jobs. Two years later, the reserve is the case, even in the blue-collar jobs industry. So every penny counts. You don’t want to make money only to play a Father Christmas to someone whose financial challenges might not be genuine.

(4) Taxes:

This topic doesn’t require much explanation as this is a paramount issue in the UK. Any sort of comfort you enjoy in the country is taxed. It runs a service-based economy. I have seen people earn about £3,000 gross salary in a month and get a net pay of £2,300. Income tax, National Insurance, and pension deductions took about £750 which is more than the salary of a successful person in Nigeria. Rent, council tax, loan repayment, vehicle insurance, and others would further beat your take-home pay until it struggles to take you home in the end.

(5) Personality traits

Some people are naturally stingy. In fact, they even struggle to spend their own money on themselves. It appears they might be of the belief that the funds could be taken with them to the great beyond. I have a friend who has no record of helping anybody in the history of his life and he has no plan to turn a new leaf. People like these come to the UK and become hardened in the area of stinginess.

Most people have to overwork, to the detriment of their health to make extra bucks. This is why some locals see the paper chase as a rat race and they prefer to stay unemployed and focus on benefits from the government. Furthermore, the housing crisis in the UK is real. As a family man, 70% of your monthly earnings easily go into accommodation costs. This makes life mentally stressful and frustrating.
Anyone looking from the outside is easily deceived by the glossy pictures, nice clothes, and lovely locations they see on social media. This set of people constitutes the ‘God When Squad’ – a popular faction in the Nigerian social media space.

Lady Calls Out Pastor For Impregnating Her, Other Church Members (Video)

A Nigerian lady has publicly accused a pastor of impregnating her and engaging in sexual relations with other members of his church. She also vowed to take legal action against him.

The accusation was made in a video posted on a popular social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), where the lady revealed her face and openly called out the pastor by name.

In the emotional video, she described the clergyman as a deceptive and immoral individual, stating that he is not who people believe him to be.

“He is not who you actually think he is. He’s a bad man,” she said.

She alleged that the pastor had been sleeping with her and had gotten her pregnant.

According to her, she is not the only victim, claiming that he has had similar encounters with several other women in the church.

She vowed that justice would be served, stating: “God will punish you. You’ll rot in hell, and you’ll rot in jail, because that is where you deserve to be.”

The video has since gone viral, drawing reactions from concerned users online.

Amid widespread failure, a pupil of the Federal Government College, Warri, Ebule Oritsemeyiwa Precious, has excelled in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scoring 334 out of 400.

Ebule Precious, who is a columnist for MathsGE With MeyiBule at Fresh Angle International, scored 98 in Mathematics, 98 in Physics, 85 in Chemistry, and 53 in English, bringing his total to 334.

The mathematician, with UTME Registration Number 202550118536DA, is a final-year student at the prestigious Federal Government College, Warri, and the son of Ebule Anthony Metsese, Co-Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Fresh Angle International.

Ebule Precious had earlier scored 326 in the UTME mock examination held on 10 April, with individual scores of 96 in Mathematics, 94 in Physics, 71 in Chemistry, and 65 in English.

Ebule’s first-choice university is the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, where he intends to study Mechanical Engineering.

It may be recalled that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) recently reported that 75 per cent of candidates who sat the just-concluded UTME scored below 200, with fewer than one per cent achieving over 300 marks nationwide.

A businesswoman, Eniola Fagbemi, popularly known as Sisialagbo, has narrated how a fraudster used her name to open a GTBank account and defrauded unsuspecting Facebook users of N3 million.

 

In a post shared on Facebook, she revealed that the incident happened last year and led to her being wrongfully arrested and detained multiple times.

 

According to her, the impersonator was an unknown lady who opened the GTBank account in her name without her knowledge.

 

The scammer used the account to run fraudulent schemes on Facebook, leaving victims thinking Sisialagbo was behind the act.

 

She said she was taken to Iyaganku Police Force Headquarters daily for three months, which deeply affected her health and mental wellbeing.

 

Sisialagbo added that her business collapsed, her home was shattered, and her children were taken away during the difficult period.

 

She stated that the real fraudster, a married woman from Abia State living in Ikorodu, Lagos, was eventually exposed and paraded by the police.

 

 

The breakthrough came with the help of the State CID and officers from the Ikorodu Police Command, who handled the investigation.

 

Though advised to sue GTBank for negligence, Sisialagbo said she lacks the resources to take legal action and is still trying to recover from the damage caused.

 

She wrote: “My name is Sisialagboam a survivor of GTBank.Last year an unknown lady created a GTBank account with my name and used it to dupe people on Facebook to the tune of 3million naira,

 

“I was locked up in the cell and dragged to filth on this app. Iyaganku police force headquarters was my second home because i had to go there daily for 3 months straight.

 

“I got sicked, tired, depressed and wretched. I watched how my buisness got crumbled in my very own eyes due to GTBank negligence opening an account for an impersonator. My home got scattered, my children was separated from me because i was already walking dead.

 

“But God vindicated me and the scammer got exposed with the helps of State CID and IKORODU police force headquarters, the impersonator was a married woman from Abia state based in Ikorodu Lagos who chose to ruin my career.

 

“I later forgive her since she was ready to confess her atrocities to the whole world and she got paraded. People advised me to Sue Gtbank, but i don’t have the strength, money and connection to do that. I pray God compensate me because am still getting my balance gradually.”

 

 

Controversial social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has given details on the allegation of money laundering levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .

In a now-viral video, VeryDarkMan claimed that his mobile phone remains in the custody of the EFCC, prompting him to purchase a replacement shortly after regaining freedom.

VDM was heard saying: “My phone is currently with the EFCC, but I bought another one after I was released. When I tried to log into my iCloud account, I realised I could no longer access it.

“EFCC, I want us to start a friendship, but what could ruin that friendship is if you people post the picture you took of me and label it as money laundering.

“If you post that picture claiming it’s about money laundering, then you should also release the full context behind it.

“If I see my picture on your website with a caption suggesting money laundering, you’ll have to prove it. That’s where our issue will begin—and we will settle it in court. It might even become the first open court case of its kind.

“If you truly want friendship, remove any association of that image with money laundering, because it’s a lie against me. I don’t mind anything else you put up—no problem. In fact, I even want to use your placard as my profile picture.

“They didn’t just keep my phone—they logged me out of my iCloud account, meaning they now have access to everything on that phone, including many videos and pieces of evidence. I have a strong feeling they won’t return the phone. And even if they do, the phone is as good as gone.
