The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against the illegal circulation and marketing of a substandard and falsified medical product, the Knowit Insulin Syringe 40 IU 29G x 1/2, in Nigeria.

The warning comes in response to concerns raised by the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria about the ongoing use of outdated 40 IU/ML insulin syringes, despite the availability of the standardized 100 IU/ML syringes.

The alarm was contained in a statement on the Agency’s X handle on Monday, March 03.

The statement reads: “NAFDAC alerts the public of the illegal circulation and marketing of a substandard and falsified Knowit Insulin Syringe 40 IU 29g X 1/2 in Nigeria.

“The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) raised concern regarding the ongoing use of 40 IU/ML insulin syringes despite the availability of 100 IU/ML insulin syringes.

“The 40iu/ml Insulin syringe was previously approved alongside the 100iu/ml for administering Lente animal insulins because of its presentation in both strengths.

“However, the discontinuaton of animal insulins and the advent of human insulins whose strengths are streamlined to 100 iu/ml, the 40iu/ml insulin syringe is no longer applicable and not registered anymore by NAFDAC as it could cause dosing errors with serious adverse consequences on diabetic patients using them.

“Note that the NAFDAC Reg Number is falsified as the product license expired in 2019.

“Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of the sale of this product to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322 or send an email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng”

A lawmaker, who represents Agege Constituency I, Mudashiru Obasa, has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Obasa was re-elected on Monday after the resignation of Mojisola Meranda who stepped down as the Speaker of the House.

Meranda came into office seven weeks ago after the lawmakers unanimously impeached Obasa.

Obasa’s re-election followed the nomination of a former Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, representing Eti-Osa Constituency 1.

Mr Obasa had derided his impeachment as a joke, claiming it did not follow due process.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a wanted 59-year-old drug baron Ogbonnaya Kevin Jeff at his hideout in the Ojo area of Lagos.

The arrest was disclosed by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Buba Marwa, while addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, March 03.

He revealed that the agency had collected irrefutable evidence of Ogbonnaya’s involvement, including his recruitment of young Nigerians as drug couriers to transport illegal substances into the Republic of Korea.

Marwa said: “The major development that warranted this special briefing pertains to the arrest of a drug lord whos wanted across the world as the leader of an international drug trafficking organisation. I am therefore pleased to announce this significant breakthrough in our efforts to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates operating within the country. As we have said four years ago when we began the reform of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), our prime targets are drug barons and other important figures that organise drug trafficking rings.

“On Wednesday, 12th February 2025, we achieved that objective in the successful arrest of Ogbonnaya Kevin Jeff, a 59-year-old drug baron. The suspect was arrested at his hideout at No. 3, Ibukunoluwa Taiwo Close, off LASU Road, Lagos. He has been under NDLEA investigation before his arrest. As a result, we have comprehensive intelligence on his activities, and incontrovertible facts that he is a notorious drug lord who recruited young Nigerians as couriers to smuggle illicit substances into the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

“Our records reveal that many Nigerians apprehended outside the country for drug-related offences were linked to him. Furthermore, we have established that he laundered drug proceeds through the importation of electronics and other goods. Following his arrest, a search of his residence led to the recovery of multiple Nigerian international passports belonging to different individuals, many of which contained Korean visas. Additionally, we recovered some illicit substances in a storehouse at the back of his house.”

Founder of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, has publicly disassociated himself from a woman who recently testified claiming to have purchased a house worth ₦500 million.

Obi emphasised that the woman lied against God and the church’s altar, not against his ministry.

He addressed the controversy in a viral video which started circulating on X on Sunday, clarifying that he had no prior relationship with her.

He further added that she only came forward like many others to share what was presumed to be a personal testimony.

The cleric said: “I said it last month that my name would be all over the media. I said the media would be shaking, making it look real, but it’s all fake.

“I heard from clergymen in the East that bloggers were sponsored. Now, do I know her? Does any member know her? She came to testify, just like hundreds of others who come here daily.

“If the house she claimed to own is fake, then it is her who lied before God and His altar — not the ministry.”

Billionaire Elon Musk, who is a close adviser to US President Donald Trump, has another child, his 14th.

His latest child, a son, is with Shivon Zilis, an executive at Musk’s Neuralink with whom he already has three other children.

“Discussed with Elon and, in light of beautiful Arcadia’s birthday, we felt it was better to also just share directly about our wonderful and incredible son Seldon Lycurgus,” Zilis said in a post on X. She did not say when the child was born.

Musk responded with a heart.

Zilis’ announcement comes two weeks after conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair said that she also recently had a child with Musk.

The Federal Government has urged cement manufacturers to lower prices to N7,000, citing improved economic conditions.

This call was made by the Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi, during a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on February 26, 2025, according to a statement on the ministry’s website.

Umahi noted that the naira has stabilized at about N1,400 per dollar, and petrol prices have dropped, creating a conducive environment for reduced cement costs.

He criticized the current price of N9,500, pointing out that manufacturers increased prices when the dollar was nearly N2,000 but have not adjusted them despite the naira’s recovery.

“Today, a dollar is about N1,400. And let me use the opportunity to express dissatisfaction with the cost of cement.

“We are using this medium to tell the cement manufacturers that at the time, the dollar was almost N2,000, they increased cement from N7,500. Why should today when the President has brought the dollar to stability to about N1400, and is still going down, why should cement be selling for N9,500? We are requesting cement manufacturers to bring down the cost of cement to N7,000,” Umahi stated.

The Works Minister stressed that affordable cement is vital for constructing Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavements and completing key infrastructure projects.

He revealed that some contractors are considering a switch back to asphalt due to high cement costs. Umahi warned that if prices were not reduced within a week, he would escalate the matter to President Bola Tinubu.

Ekaette Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed multiple lawsuits against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, over alleged defamatory comments.

On Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan, in an interview on Arise TV, alleged that the Senate President made sexual advances at her in his office and residence in Akwa Ibom. The Senate President’s wife responded by saying her husband is disciplined, adding that the senator’s claims were “lies.”

In a fundamental rights suit filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Ekaette said the “scandalous and salacious” comments made by Akpoti-Uduaghan have caused her and her children “emotional and psychological abuse.” Akpabio’s wife asked the court to restrain Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further “spiteful” statements that infringe on her fundamental human rights.

“AN ORDER awarding the sum of N250,000,000,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Billion Naira only) as exemplary, punitive, aggravated and general damages against the Respondent for her infringement of the fundamental rights of the Applicant alongside,” the fundamental rights suit reads. “Such further or other Orders as this Honourable Court may deem fit to make in the circumstance.”

Ekaette said the Kogi senator’s comments “damaged the reputation of the claimant and indeed her entire family, bringing them into disrepute and opprobrium.” She asked the court to mandate Akpoti-Uduaghan to tender an apology to her family and publish it in two national newspapers.

“AN ORDER OF THIS HONOURABLE COURT compelling the Defendant to pay to the Claimant the sum of ₦1,000,000,000.00 (One Billion Naira only) as punitive and exemplary damages for the ruinous effect of the Defendant’s defamatory words on the Claimant’s family’s reputation,” a portion of the suit reads. “AN ORDER OF PERPETUAL INJUNCTION restraining the Defendant from further uttering any defamatory words or causing to be uttered or spread, any defamatory words against the reputation of the Claimant’s family.”

The Senate President has yet to publicly comment on Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations. TheCable’s efforts to get a comment from his media aides have proved futile
