At least 100 people were abducted and several others killed on Tuesday evening when armed bandits attacked Dan Muntari village in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Among those killed was a woman who had given birth just two weeks earlier, along with her newborn baby.

The incident was disclosed on Thursday in a post by security analyst, Bakatsine on X.

“On Tuesday evening, bandits attacked Dan Muntari village in Danko Wasagu LGA, Kebbi State. They killed many people, including a woman who had given birth just two weeks earlier and her newborn baby. They also abducted at least 100 people,” Bakatsine wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities are yet to release an official statement on the attack.

Similarly, at least two people have been killed and several others abducted after armed bandits launched a fresh attack on Sabon Sarah, a community in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State, early Wednesday morning.

The incident was revealed in a post by security analyst Bakatsine on his X handle.

According to the post, “Bandits attacked Sabon Sarah community in Bakura LGA, Zamfara State. They killed two people, injured one and abducted several people including adolescent girls during the attack.”

Authorities in the state are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Zamfara State has in recent days become a hotspot for bandit attacks, with communities facing constant fear and violence.

The state remains one of the worst-hit by banditry in Nigeria, with thousands of people killed, abducted, and displaced.

Earlier this week, armed bandits invaded Katuru village in Shinkafi Local Government Area, where they injured two people and abducted two women.

In a separate incident the same week, bandits stormed a mosque during evening prayers in Unguwar Galadunci, a community in Anka LGA where several worshippers were kidnapped, and many others injured in the attack.

In response to the rising violence, civil society groups called on both the federal and state governments to take urgent and serious steps to protect lives and property in the state.

Amnesty International, a global human rights group, also condemned the attacks, describing them as another sign of the government’s failure to protect its most vulnerable citizens.

 

Tragedy struck on Wednesday in Gbongan community, Osun State, when two persons lost their lives while 15 others were injured in a lone auto crash involving a cattle laden DAF truck at Iwo Road junction.

The accident which occurred around 8:26 a.m was said to have caused panic among residents and passersby around Iwo Road junction, on the stretch of Akoda-Gbongan dual carriage way.

This disclosure was made in a statement issued by the Public Education Officer (PEO) of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State command, Agnes Ogungbemi, on behalf of the sector commander, Mr. Leye Adegboyega.

According to the statement, preliminary investigation indicated that the crashed truck was loaded with 70 animals—including cows, goats, and sheep—as well as human passengers seated atop the animals. The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Kebbi State en route to Ikire, Osun State.

Some of the passengers hinted that the driver had dozed off behind the wheel on at least two occasions after the truck passed Osogbo, adding that on reaching the Surprise Hotel area in Gbongan, the driver allegedly fell asleep again.

The statement reads, “As a result, the truck veered off the road and plunged into a roadside ditch, overturning and violently ejecting both animals and passengers.

“Two fatalities were recorded at the scene, while 15 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured were promptly transported to a Adeoye Medical Centre, Gbongan for medical attention.

“Two injured victims and one dead body were taken to Adeoye Medical Centre, Gbongan and 13 injured victims and another corpse were taken to Ariremako Medical Centre l, Gbongan while the crashed vehicle was taken over by NPF Gbongan

“The sector commander warns that all vehicles that are not road worthy should be off the highway .He also implored all motorists to drive carefully, “the statement concluded.

“Why Tinubu’s Two Years The Worst In Nigeria’s History” – CUP

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two-year tenure as the worst in Nigeria’s history since independence, as he marks his second year in office.

In a statement issued on Tuesday to commemorate the anniversary, CUPP’s National Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, accused the Tinubu-led administration of deepening economic hardship, worsening insecurity, and neglecting critical sectors such as education and healthcare.

“Two years ago, severe hunger came to town in Nigeria through President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Governance, in its most inhumane form, ascended the throne. Insecurity worsened, youth unemployment skyrocketed, and the number of out-of-school children rose from 20 million to nearly 40 million. Inflation has surged to over 36%,” Adebayo said.

He also lamented Nigeria’s weakening presence on the global stage due to inactive foreign missions, blaming it on the absence of appointed ambassadors.

“Our foreign missions remain inactive due to the absence of appointed ambassadors, leaving Nigeria virtually absent on the global diplomatic stage,” he added.

On the state of security, Adebayo described the situation as alarming:

“People in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the country are being slaughtered daily by an invading army of terrorists, killer herdsmen, and kidnappers. Even Abuja, the nation’s capital, is not safe from these predators,” he said.

He further criticized the country’s collapsing healthcare system:

“Our medical institutions have collapsed. They are worse than consulting clinics, and the common people bear the brunt. Meanwhile, the president and his cabinet continue to travel abroad for medical treatment.”

The CUPP spokesman also accused President Tinubu of abandoning governance to focus on securing a second term, noting that sectors such as health, education, and the economy have suffered greatly.

“Nigeria’s debt profile has reached scandalous levels, with total debt—both domestic and external—projected to hit ₦188 trillion by the end of 2025. Despite the billions of dollars saved through the removal of fuel subsidy on his first day in office, the Tinubu administration continues to seek additional loans, deepening the nation’s economic woes,” he said.

Adebayo argued that the government’s policies were deliberately anti-people and claimed Nigerians were already looking for a better alternative in the 2027 elections.

“Nigerians are already weary of this administration and have lost faith in President Bola Tinubu due to his anti-people economic policies over the past two years,” he said. “A second term would be catastrophic. Nigerians are actively seeking a credible alternative for 2027—one with the competence, patriotism, compassion, and creativity to rescue the country from its current crisis.”

Nigerians have dumped the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited retail outlets over high prices of premium motor spirits.

According tia Dailypost Correspondent who went round major NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja observed low patronage by motorists in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

This was also the case for NNPCL retail outlets along Kubwa Expressway and those in Wuse Zone 4 and 6, which dispense fuel at N910 per litre.

Musa Abdullahi, a motorist in Abuja, said he preferred to buy at other filling stations with fuel prices below N910 per litre.

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, said commuters prefer to patronise filling stations with competitive prices is why patronage dropped in NNPCL.

“The disparity in prices in filling stations is due to the deregulation of the downstream sector. Filling stations now compete not only because of their brand but also their prices. Before now NNPCL filling stations had queues because of their prices but the reverse is the case today,” he told DAILY POST exclusively.

Recall that after Dangote Refinery announced a fresh petrol price template last week, partners and markets such as MRS, AP Ardova, Optima, Bova, and others dropped their fuel price by 15 to N895 per litre from N910.

It was reported that other petrol marketers, such as Salbas and AA Rano in Abuja, had reduced their petrol price from N910 per litre to N900 as of Tuesday. Similarly, others, fuel marketers previously dispensing fuel at N917 per litre in Abuja, have reduced to N910 to remain attractive to patronage.

However, NNPCL retail outlets had to hold on to 910 litres. The development comes as NNPCL Saturday shut down its Port Harcourt Refinery for maintenance.

Elon Musk has announced on social media that he is leaving his role in the Trump administration.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” the billionaire wrote on X, his social media platform.

“The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” he said, referring to his “department of government efficiency.”

A White House official told Reuters it was accurate that Musk is leaving the administration and his “off-boarding will begin tonight.”

His departure was quick and unceremonious. He did not have a formal conversation with Trump before announcing his exit, according to a source with knowledge of the matter, who added that his departure was decided “at a senior staff level.”

Musk, the world’s richest person, has defended his role as an unelected official who was granted unprecedented authority by Trump to dismantle parts of the US government. His 130-day mandate as a special government employee in the Trump administration was set to expire about 30 May.

Both Musk and the administration have said DOGE’s efforts to restructure and shrink the federal government will continue.

He recently criticised the president’s marquee tax bill, calling it too expensive and a measure that would undermine his work to make the government more “efficient.”

“The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realised,” Musk told the Washington Post on Tuesday. “I thought there were problems, but it sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in DC, to say the least.”

Trump and DOGE have managed to cut nearly 12%, or 260,000, of the 2.3 million-strong federal civilian workforce largely through threats of firings, buyouts, and early retirement offers, a Reuters review of agency departures found.

Musk’s political activities have drawn protests, and some investors have called for Musk to leave his position as Trump’s adviser and manage Tesla more closely.

Having spent nearly $300m to back Trump’s presidential campaign and other Republicans last year, he said earlier this month he would substantially cut his political spending. “I think I’ve done enough,” Musk said at an economic forum in Qatar.

 

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Nigerian national, Daniel Eheri, who reportedly died in police custody in Luxembourg.

In a statement by the Commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, condemned the alleged death of Eheri while in the custody of the Grand-Ducale Police and assured that the Commission would collaborate with the Nigerian Embassy in Belgium to demand justice.

Dabiri-Erewa expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the Nigerian community in Luxembourg, stressing that NiDCOM is committed to ensuring that the case is thoroughly investigated and those responsible are held accountable.

The statement partly reads: “The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) said it would work with the Nigerian embassy in Belgium to demand for investigations into the circumstances that led to the death of a Nigerian national Daniel Eheri in the custody of Luxembourg Police, Grand-Ducale.

“In a statement by the Commission’s Director of Media and Public Relations, stated that Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Commission, condemned in strong terms the allegation that the suspect died in the custody of the Police authorities.

“Dabiri-Erewa who condoled the family of the deceased as well as Nigerian Community in Luxembourg said that the Commission would work with other stakeholders and ensure that justice is serve.

“The NiDCOM boss said that the Commission will work with the Nigerian Embassy in that country to demand for thorough investigation.

“The Nigerian Community had claimed that a written petition was sent to the Federal Government of Nigeria, calling for an urgent investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killing of a Nigerian national, Daniel Eheri, who reportedly died while in the custody of the Luxembourg Police Grand-Ducale.

“The said petition, titled ‘Case of an Extrajudicial Killing of a Nigerian by the Police Authority of Luxembourg’, was allegedly addressed to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and signed by the National Coordinator of the Nigerian Community in Luxembourg, Mr Sunday Adekolu.

“According to the petition, Eheri was arrested by the Luxembourg police on 10 February 2025 while in possession of foodstuffs and was confirmed dead by the following day. The letter raised concerns over the lack of explanation by Luxembourg authorities regarding the circumstances of his death.”

 

 

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has issued a stark warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, invoking the threat of World War III following Trump’s criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The warning came after Trump stated he would “absolutely” consider new sanctions against Moscow, amid continued missile and drone attacks in Ukraine that have left many dead.

In a post on X, Medvedev wrote:
“Regarding Trump’s words about Putin ‘playing with fire’ and ‘really bad things’ happening to Russia — I only know of one REALLY BAD thing: WWIII. I hope Trump understands this!”

Medvedev served as Russia’s president from 2008 to 2012 and as prime minister from 2012 to 2020.

Trump’s frustration over his inability to end the war, which he once claimed he could resolve within 24 hours, intensified over the weekend following a Russian drone strike that killed at least 13 people in Ukraine.

Diplomatic efforts to end the war have ramped up in recent weeks, but Putin has been accused of stalling peace negotiations.

Speaking on Tuesday, Trump warned of “serious consequences,” saying: “What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realise is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia — and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!”

While Trump did not elaborate on the nature of the consequences, The Wall Street Journal and CNN reported that new U.S. sanctions on Russia could be announced as early as this week. On Sunday, Trump told reporters he was “absolutely” considering the move.

Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, has yet to respond directly to Trump’s latest comments. However, earlier statements from Moscow blamed Ukraine for escalating tensions and claimed it was responding to increased attacks on Russian civilians.

Russian authorities reported intercepting nearly 150 Ukrainian drones in recent days, including 33 that were heading toward Moscow.

 

The Federal Government has announced a monthly payment of N45,000 for students in technical colleges across Nigeria.

This move was said to be part of a plan to bring new life to Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Idris Bugaje, shared this in an interview in Abuja while speaking on the second year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration on Wednesday.

Bugaje said the plan was part of a bigger effort to improve the TVET system and make it more appealing than regular university education.

He explained that the goal was to grow the TVET sector fast and get more students to enrol in technical colleges.

He added that the government will not only pay the monthly stipend but will also handle other costs.

Bugaje said, “The government will pay school fees, give money to industry-based supervisors (called master class instructors), and cover the cost of skill certification.

“With this, young people will find it more attractive to come to a technical college, acquire skills qualifications, get jobs locally and even beyond the borders of Nigeria.

“This way, the whole sector is being repositioned. We are at the moment facing what you may call either a resurrection or a rebirth of TVET.”

He noted that TVET used to be well-supported in Nigeria in the past.

“During colonial days and the early part of our independence, TVET had received attention. But, since the 1980s, we have been going down the drain. That is why the number of technical colleges has dropped, from 129 at the moment, compared to 15,000 senior secondary schools in Nigeria,” he said.

Bugaje expressed hope that this new effort will turn things around.

He revealed that Tinubu’s government has set aside N120 billion to support students under this new TVET plan.

“This money will be given through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

“The N45,000 is not a loan, but a grant. Students who enjoy this are not going to pay back. We want to encourage more people to enrol in technical education,” he said.

To keep the programme running, Bugaje said the Minister of Education was working on a bill.

The bill aims to create a National Skills Fund under the new Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework.

“This was an idea we have been talking about in the past years, but the new minister has taken it up.

“The bill shall soon be presented in the National Assembly to establish the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework and under it, the National Skills Fund.

“The National Skills Fund will continue to fund TVET institutions, not only those in government colleges but also those in the private sector,” he said.

The Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, Enugu State Police Command, has arrested four male suspects for conspiracy, staged kidnapping, and defrauding the parents of a staged kidnapping victim of N2million.

The suspects included Chidera Godwin Ako, 21, who orchestrated his kidnapping; Okechukwu Philip Chidalu, 19; Ifeanyi Ugwu, 20; and Ossai Chigozie, 35, recently released from the Nigerian Correctional Service custodial centre.

They were arrested about 1 p.m on May 24, this year. with a local single-barrel gun and two live cartridges.

According to the spokesman of the state Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, Chidera was reported missing on May 4.

“Subsequently, on May 21, 2025, his accomplices used his phone to demand a N10million ransom from his parents, sending a video of him bound, appearing beaten, with the recovered gun pointed at him.

“The parents pleaded for his release and paid N1.5million into a provided account, on May 22, but the suspects failed to release him. After an additional N500,000 payment, the police operatives swiftly arrested Chidera and his accomplices at a POS centre during an attempt to withdraw the funds.

“The suspects confessed to the crime and will be arraigned upon completion of investigations,” the police said.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, while describing the criminal act as unfortunate, has ordered further arrests of anyone linked to the crime.

He urged the public to report suspected kidnappings and avoid hasty ransom payments, emphasising that some cases might be staged.

The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, in a continued effort to rid the state of criminal elements, carried out a clean-up enforcement operation in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The operation, which began around 1:30 a.m., targeted key areas on Lagos Island, including Victoria Island, Falomo Bridge, Ligali Ayorinde Street, Ikoyi, and several adjoining streets identified as hotspots for undesirable activities.

According to a post on the X handle of Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, 33 male suspects were arrested.

The post reads: “In continuation of the agency’s clean up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce set out at about 1:30am on Wednesday, 28th May, 2025 and embarked on its ongoing clean up enforcement operation on the Island.

“The areas visited during the operation includes; Victoria Island, Falomo bridge, Ligali Ayorinde street, Ikoyi and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.

“During the raid exercise, a total number of 33 male suspects were arrested and sanity was restored in all the areas.

“All the Suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
