A suspected vandal (name not given) has been electrocuted, while making attempt to steal components of a transformer at 500KVA substation in Ede town, Osun State.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Regional Communication and Branding Officer, Kikelomo Owoeye, on behalf of the Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Osun Region, obtained on Friday.

Owoeye further explained that the vandal had attacked the transformer located at Baba Abiye street, Ede late on Wednesday.

But unfortunately, he got injured in the process and fell beside the transformer but was discovered seriously injured the following morning by a resident, who alerted others in the neighborhood.

The statement read in parts, “The suspected vandal was electrocuted during the act and was later discovered by a concerned resident the following morning.

“He was promptly taken to Alpha Hospital by the police while an accomplice was apprehended and taken into the police custody.”

Commenting further on the incident, IBEDC condemned the act, adding that, “Vandalism poses grave risks to lives, undermines public safety, and disrupts power supply to communities.

“We commend the vigilance and prompt action of the local residents and urge the public to remain alert.

“We encourage residents to report any suspicious activity or infractions, including energy theft, meter tampering, and vandalism, through the appropriate channels. Together, we can safeguard our infrastructure and ensure a more reliable electricity supply.”

 

A renewed wave of violence in Taraba State has left more than 30 people dead and dozens displaced following attacks on Munga and Magami villages in Karim-Lamido local government council.

The assaults, reportedly carried out by suspected armed herders in the early hours of Saturday, also resulted in the destruction of homes and properties, compounding fears among residents and casting a shadow over the state’s recent investment drive.

The incident comes on the heels of the high profile Taraba Investment Summit, which drew national attention with appearances from business moguls such as Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The summit, aimed at rebranding Taraba as an investor friendly state, is now being overshadowed by escalating insecurity.

Survivors and eyewitnesses criticized what they described as the state government’s slow and inadequate response to persistent security threats in the region.

Many expressed disappointment over Governor Agbu Kefas’s absence from the affected communities, drawing comparisons to Borno State governor Babagana Zulum, known for his proactive approach and visits to conflict zones.

Karim-Lamido has increasingly become a hotspot for violence, with the latest assault in Munga Lelau marking another deadly chapter.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, Governor Kefas condemned the attack as “horrendous and unacceptable”. He assured the public that the perpetrators would face justice.

“Our citizens’ safety is my top priority,” the governor stated. “We have activated all necessary security measures to prevent further violence and bring those responsible to book.”

Kefas called on residents to cooperate with security agencies, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity. He urged calm while emphasizing the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability.

Speaking on the attack, the Taraba State Police Command said tensions were triggered after a 15-year-old boy, Isah Ishaku of Munga Doso, was allegedly macheted on his farm by an unknown assailant.

Police spokesperson James Leshen said a joint team of conventional police officers and the Police Mobile Force (PMF) had been deployed to the affected communities.

Leshen said efforts were underway to restore calm and apprehend those behind the violence. Aggressive patrols have commenced in the region, and community leaders have been engaged to mediate and de-escalate tensions.

 

The Federal Government has announced plans to sell 753 housing units confiscated from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to members of the public.

This move was revealed in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, following a joint site inspection led by the Minister, Ahmed Dangiwa, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede.Nigerian home decor ideas

The housing estate, located in Abuja, was recovered by the EFCC in December 2024 and handed over to the Ministry after a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

During the visit, Dangiwa confirmed that the Ministry would begin immediate technical assessments of the buildings, including structural integrity tests, to determine their readiness for completion and sale.

Once deemed structurally sound, the housing units will be made available to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Portal, a government platform aimed at increasing public access to affordable housing.

Dangiwa emphasised the administration’s dedication to transparency, noting that such asset recoveries demonstrate a clear stance against corruption.

“The government of the day is serious about fighting corruption,” the Minister stated, praising the EFCC for what he described as one of the most substantial recoveries in Nigeria’s recent history.

He called on public officials to avoid corrupt practices and urged citizens to continue supporting the EFCC in its anti-corruption mandate.

Speaking during the inspection, EFCC Chairman Olukoyede stressed the importance of public awareness regarding the recovery.

He noted that what had previously been broadcast were only aerial images, and that the inspection served to prove the estate’s existence and extent.

According to the EFCC, the estate, which spans more than 150,000 square metres and comprises duplexes and other residential units, is the largest single asset recovery since the commission was established in 2003.

The property was forfeited to the federal government following a final order issued by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on December 2, 2024.

In April 2025, Emefiele attempted to reclaim the estate, arguing that the EFCC had failed to inform him of the forfeiture proceedings despite his ongoing interactions with the agency concerning other charges. His application was ultimately dismissed by the court, upholding the federal government’s right to the asset.

 

The government’s decision to convert the recovered estate into public housing aligns with broader efforts to tackle corruption and make economic assets available for the benefit of Nigerian citizens.

 

The Delta State Government has lamented the late-hour conduct of the West African Examination Council at the Unity Modern School, Asaba, which saw students sitting the exam with phone torchlights on Thursday.

It was gathered that the exam was supposed to start at 2 pm but was delayed until 6 pm.

In a viral video seen by newsmen, two invigilators were seen holding phone torchlights as the examination hall was without electricity.

One of the voices in the video was heard saying, “The paper that was supposed to start by 2 pm, they brought it by 6 pm. No electricity in the school. So, the students are using torchlights to write the WAEC exam in Unity Modern School, Asaba, the state capital, and not in the village.”

It was gathered that the school was less than a kilometre from the WAEC office.

Commenting on the incident on Friday, the state Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, frowned on the situation, noting that WAEC exams were not supposed to be held at odd hours.

She said, “We are on the situation. I have spoken to WAEC to find a solution to what is happening. WAEC exam is not a state exam; it’s a federal exam.

“I told them not to stress our students. Imagine students coming back from the exam centre at a late hour. It is not too good. I called the exam controller, and I think we are trying to solve the situation.”

Also reacting, a human rights activist, Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, described the incident as appalling and a violation of child rights.

“This disgraceful occurrence, widely circulated on social media, lays bare the chronic mismanagement and negligence crippling Nigeria’s educational system, particularly in Delta State,” he said.

Aghogho, who is the Convener of #OperationSaveNigerianChildrenCampaign, said it was inconceivable that in 2025, in the heart of a state capital, children who had strived to secure their academic future were subjected to such degrading conditions.

He said, “These students, some only 15 years old, suffered a four-hour delay in the delivery of examination papers. With no electricity available, they were forced to complete their exams in darkness.

“This is not only a denial of their right to quality education but also a violation of their dignity and well-being, as guaranteed under the Child Rights Act, 2003, and relevant international human rights conventions.”

He said the upgraded facility would support irrigation and tap into its hydropower potential.

Utsev also gave updates on the Dasin Hausa Dam in Adamawa, which is critical in mitigating floods from water released by Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam.

He stated that a study and design have been completed and the ministry is now in the process of procuring a transaction adviser.

According to the minister, this dam will serve irrigation, water supply, and hydropower generation. It is also expected to act as a buffer against flooding.

Other dams nearing completion include Magro Dam in Plateau State, Obese Dam in Ekiti State, Kashimbila Multipurpose Dam in Taraba State, Irawo Dam in Oyo State, Monkey Dam in Taraba State, Kari Dam in Akwa Ibom State and others.

He stated that irrigation remains a key driver for boosting food production, creating employment, and revitalising the economy.

 

 

 

Annie Knight, a 27-year-old OnlyFans star known as “Australia’s most sexually active woman,” has been hospitalised after taking part in a challenge where she reportedly slept with 583 men in a single day.

She shared a video from her hospital bed on Wednesday, revealing she went in for treatment due to severe cramps and excessive bleeding. The symptoms appeared just a day after the event, which was filmed on Sunday.

Knight said the issue was related to her pre-existing endometriosis, a condition she believes was triggered by stress.

“On Sunday everything was all good, but the next day I had a lot of bleeding that I shouldn’t really have because I’m on contraception, and I was a little bit worried about it but decided I would wait it out and see how it goes,” she told Perth Now.

“Then it turned into really bad cramps and pains, then I started to get a bit worried and decided to take myself to hospital.”

Doctors initially suspected the pain and bleeding were due to the extreme physical activity involved in the challenge, but later ruled that out.

“We ran a bunch of tests all day, then eventually it was my endometriosis had been exasperated by mostly stress and not so much the physical challenge that I did on Sunday,” Knight explained.

Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to those in the uterus grow outside it. These cells bleed each month like uterine tissue, but the blood has nowhere to go.

Symptoms include heavy periods, pain, fatigue, and a higher risk of infertility. The exact cause is unknown but may involve genetics, immune system problems, or chemical exposure.

Treatment usually focuses on pain relief and improving quality of life, sometimes through hormone therapy or surgery.

This is not Knight’s first recent hospital visit. Just a month ago, she was hospitalized with a mysterious ailment.

Her fiancé, Henry Brayshaw, shared a photo on Instagram showing her in a blue hospital gown, resting in bed surrounded by monitors.

“Wonder where the life support switch is?” he joked in the caption.

The couple made headlines recently after announcing their engagement—just one week into officially dating.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Knight explained the history behind the whirlwind romance.

“The crazy bit about it is we’ve only been officially dating for a week,” she said. “However, we’ve been best friends for ten years and we have dated in the past.”

“And we’ve been sort of seeing each other recently. It’s not a shotgun engagement or anything like that. It’s been ten years in the making.”

Despite her engagement, Knight made it clear her lifestyle won’t be changing anytime soon.

She said that she still plans to sleep with 1,000 men before the end of 2025.

“He is super supportive, he’s just the best and he understands that I’m very work-oriented and that I enjoy my job,” she said.

“We have ten years of history. He knows me better than anyone, better than I even know myself, we’ve been through so much together and the support and the love that we have for each other is unmatched—he accepts me for who I am.”

Interestingly, while Knight’s lifestyle remains open, her fiancé’s does not.

“He is completely monogamous and faithful to me and is forbidden from sleeping with other women—but the same rules don’t apply to me,” she said.

A Nigerian businessman has come under fire after allegedly offering his apprentice only ₦1 million as settlement after seven years of service—while also accusing him of stealing ₦18 million.

This development was revealed in a series of posts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to the posts, the young man had served under the traditional Igbo apprenticeship system known as *Nwa Boi* for seven years.

At the end of the service, the boss reportedly offered to pay him ₦1 million, a gesture that sparked outrage among residents who witnessed the incident.

One aggrieved witness in the video was heard saying:

“This man is a liar, very wicked somebody.”

In response to the backlash, the boss accused the apprentice of stealing ₦18 million from him during his years of service.

As the post gained traction online, social media users flooded the comment section to express their opinions and demand justice for the apprentice.

A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting in Mapo in Ibadan has ordered that two brothers, Usman, 20, and Toheeb Wasiu, 26, should be remanded in the correctional centre for allegedly insulting a police officer.

They pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace filed against them.

The President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Akintayo ordered that the sureties must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Oyo State government and must also possess a valid identity card each.

She adjourned the case until July 2 for a hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had informed the court that the defendants committed the crime on May 13, at about 12:30 am, at the entrance of Mapo police station, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Shedding more light on the matter, Ayeni said that the Wasiu brothers cursed and shouted abusive words at Insp Taiwo Ige and two other personnel.

According to the prosecutor, the siblings used the abusive utterances to incite the public against the police, thus causing a breach of peace.

He noted that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 249 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State 2000
