Twelve inmates escaped in an early morning jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, on Monday.

Kogi State Information Commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured citizens that the government, working with security agencies, would take steps to prevent a recurrence.

According to him, law enforcement agencies have re-arrested one of the escapees.

“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns.

“This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system,” Fanwo said.

The commissioner said Governor Usman Ododo has asked security agencies to ensure such security breaches do not happen again.

“We call on the public to report any suspicious individuals in their communities. Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will be held accountable,” he warned.

“There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” Fanwo added

Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has directed an immediate investigation into a prison break incident at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State.

The Minister pledged to ensure that all fleeing inmates are captured leveraging the service’s robust biometrics and already deployed technology solutions.

A statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Interior, Babatunde Alao, on Monday, March 24 reads: “The Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered immediate probe into the unfortunate prison break incident at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State.

“The Minister describes the incident as unfortunate, and vows to ensure all fleeing inmates are captured leveraging the service’s robust biometrics and already deployed technology solutions.

“The Minister has also ordered the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi, to visit the facility in Kogi to evaluate the situation, and commence a comprehensive audit to unravel the events that led to the incident.

” ‘We are on top of the situation. Our men are on ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a comprehensive audit of the situation’, ” he said.

The Adamawa Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal killing of a 35-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Abbas Yuguda, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area (LGA) Adamawa State.

The incident occurred when Yuguda was ambushed on his way home by a group of armed individuals who inflicted severe head injuries, leaving him unconscious in a pool of blood.

Operatives of the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A group of angry mob had however apprehended and beaten up one of the suspects identified as Umar Snu, who is hospitalised and helping with further investigations.

This was revealed in a statement by Adamawa Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje on, Monday, March 24.

The statement reads: “The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the gruesome killing of a POS operator, Abbas Yuguda, 35 years old, who was attacked in Mayo-Belwa LGA.

“The incident occurred on 22nd March, 2025, when the victim was on his way home after closing from his business premises. Some groups of people armed themselves with offensive weapons, attacked and inflicted severe injuries on his head and left him lying in a pool of blood.

“The command’s operatives attached to Divisional police headquarters, Mayo Belwa arrived at the scene and immediately rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa, in a bid to save his life but sadly he was confirmed dead while on admission receiving treatment.

“On the strength of that, one of the suspects identified as Umar SNU, was trailed by some angry youths, he was subdued to mob action before being rescued by the police. He was equally rushed to Hospital for medical attention now aiding investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC(+), have strongly condemned this act of violence and has directed a thorough and discreet investigation to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He also warns members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands, and urged them to allow the law to always take its course.

“The Command urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.”

A deadly ambush by bandits in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Saturday has left ten individuals dead, including six operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), also known as Askarawa, and four local vigilantes.

The operatives were returning from a successful joint operation with the Nigerian Army where several bandits were neutralised.

However, on their way back, they were ambushed by a group of remaining bandits, resulting in the tragic loss of ten lives.

Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, confirmed the attack and expressed condolences in a statement on his verified Facebook page, on Sunday, March 23.

He wrote: “I got information that gunmen ambushed some Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Anka Local Government. The incident occurred yesterday when security forces and the State Community Protection Guards (CPG) led by the Nigerian Army attacked the hideouts of the bandits and successful neutralized several bandits and recovered their weapons.

“The information made available to me that on their way back that when the bandits ambushed them at Bagega and open fire on them killing six Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG) and four Yansakai which their burial was conducted Sunday’s morning.

“There are three people that are missing among them, which two are CPG members while one Yansakai. When I learned of the incident, I gave a directive that immediate medical assistance should be offered to the injured persons while the families of those who loss their lives be provided immediate relief materials.

“I prayed that accept the souls of those who paid the Supreme sacrifice in order to protect their communities. May God comfort their families. I prayed God to end the security challenge in Zamfara State, North and Nigeria as a whole.”

A law student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) was left in shock after encountering an exam question based on the viral ‘Lamba for Lambo’ saga involving Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy and Sophia Egbueje. shocked

Surprisingly, UNIPORT’s Faculty of Law decided to use the controversy as a case study in their examination. Law students were reportedly asked to analyze the situation from a legal perspective, particularly focusing on contract law principles such as offer, acceptance, consideration, and whether Burna Boy’s alleged promise could be considered a legally binding agreement.

The West African Examinations Council has released the results of the 2025 Computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates.

In a post obtained from its X handle on Saturday, the examination body said, “The results of the Computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, 2025-First Series have been released.”

Reacting to the developments, some students lamented inability to check their results.

An X user with the name Ephrata said, ” I checked mine now they’re saying my card has been used by another candidate. And this my first time of using it. Why is that? I bought scratch card same thing. Please I want you to reply me and tell me what wrong with it, so I can make the next steps.”

Another user with X account registered under endowedToBad, said “My student has not been able to check Nov/Dec 2024 result till now.”

Another X user called Bigname said, “Good morning, please I’m trying to re download my photo card so as to check my result pin but it’s saying that registration is not allowed this period while another X user named Trillions shared a screenshot of the negative response he got trying to check his result online.

The United States Government is terminating the legal status of hundreds of thousands of immigrants, giving them weeks to leave the country.

The order affects around 532,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans who came to the United States under a scheme launched in October 2022 by Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden, and expanded in January the following year.

They will lose their legal protection 30 days after the Department of Homeland Security’s order is published in the Federal Register, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

That means immigrants sponsored by the program “must depart the United States” by 24 April unless they have secured another immigration status allowing them to remain in the country, the order says.

An Abia businessman, Dr. Eke Agbai, has dragged First Bank Nigeria, before an Abia State High court over what he describes as premeditated fraud of over N550 million from his fixed deposit account with the bank.

In his lawsuit, filed by his lawyer, Ebuka Nwaeze, the claimant stated that First Bank has refused to return the deposit made by their client.

This cumulative deposit amounting to N550 million was initiated by their client following the threat of withdrawal of the Branch from Abiriba, in furtherance to his desire to sustain the development of the Community of which he is a leader.

The claimant stated that as a community leader, he viewed the deposit as a contribution to local development.

The alleged fraud came to light in December 2023 when Eke discovered he could no longer access his personal account through the bank’s mobile app and was unable to reach the Business Development Manager.

Upon visiting First Bank’s Gwarinpa branch in Abuja, he was reportedly informed that N55 million had been withdrawn from his fixed deposit in six consecutive transactions—even though he was in Umuahia at the time of the unauthorised deductions.

Following this discovery, Eke demanded the liquidation of his fixed deposit, but months passed without any action from the bank.

After multiple complaints, First Bank launched an internal investigation, which resulted in the dismissal of fewer than nine senior officials allegedly linked to the fraud.

However, In response, First Bank, in a statement by Acting Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Olayinka Ijabiyi, issued a strong denial, describing the claims as “entirely unfounded and false.”

“We can affirm that the allegations of fraud in the Bank as alluded to by ‘Dr. Agbai Eke’ are entirely unfounded and false. Our findings on the matter indicate unprofessional and unethical dealings between Dr. Agbai Eke and a former FirstBank employee, using a personal relationship to facilitate unauthorized transactions outside the bank’s knowledge or involvement.”

First Bank added that it has referred the case to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.
