A man broke down in tears after being publicly humiliated by alleged Forestry officers for reportedly defecating and smoking in the Achimota Forest Reserve.

The incident was captured in a video shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @eddie_wrt.

The footage shows the man being forced to squat in front of a warning signpost and read its contents aloud, while being flogged by the officers to “do it properly” as he pleads for mercy.

The caption of the post read: “A man broke down in tears after being forced by alleged Forestry officers to squat and read warning signposts at the Achimota Forest Reserve, after he was reportedly caught smoking and defecating in the forest.”

The warning sign clearly prohibits defecating, dumping refuse, or entering the forest without permission—rules the man was accused of violating.

As the video circulated online, many users flooded the comment section to express outrage, concern, and varied reactions to the man’s treatment.

The Nigeria’s Office of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has debunked viral rumour that the English Language examination written on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in the ongoing WASSCE for School Candidates, has been cancelled and that a new date for the conduct of a fresh examination will be announced soon.Local attractions

In a statement released by Acting Head, Public Affairs, WAEC, Moyosola Adesina, on Tuesday, June 2, the examination body said the purported press release being circulated did not emanate from the Council, adding that the said examination has not been cancelled.

The statement read; “West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has been drawn to a purported press release by the Council, spreading across various social media platforms. According to the press release dated Friday, 30th May 2025, “the English Language paper written on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in the ongoing WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025 has been cancelled, and a new date for the conduct of the examination will be announced soon.

“The management of the West African Examinations Council would like to state that the press release being circulated did not emanate from the Council. The said examination has not been cancelled. Although the source of that information cannot be ascertained yet, the Council is certain that the false claim is being peddled by mischief-makers who are bent on bringing the Council to disrepute to cause confusion and panic for candidates who sat the examination.Local attractions

“The Council would like to use this avenue to inform the general public and all stakeholders that pieces of information from the Council are disseminated via our official and verified social media handles, as well as accredited media platforms across the country. In the same vein, all press releases are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department of the Council on behalf of the Head of National Office.

“Once again, we thank all stakeholders for the confidence reposed in us for the seventy-three (73) years of conducting examinations, and we promise to always seek innovative ways to render quality services to the Nigerian child.”

Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence in a move seen as part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the political situation in the state.

The meeting comes just days after Fubara publicly declared commitment to peace, stating he had put aside personal pride and interests for the sake of unity and progress in Rivers.

While the purpose and outcome of the meeting have not been officially disclosed, it is believed to be linked to recent reconciliation efforts involving Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Fubara recently acknowledged Wike as his political mentor and reaffirmed efforts to mend their strained relationship.

Revealing Fubara’s meeting with Tinubu, Presidential spokesperson, Dada Olusegun, wrote on X: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu receives in Audience, H.E #SimFubaraKSC at his residence in lagos today.”

On March 18, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in response to the protracted political crisis in the region.

As part of the emergency measures, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly were suspended for a period of six months.

To oversee governance during the suspension, the president appointed retired naval chief Ibok-Ette Ibas as the sole administrator of the state.

Former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has disclosed he gave $1 million to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and N500 million to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 1998.

Kalu made this known on Monday while fielding questions on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme.

The Abia-born senator, who was discussing Nigerian politics on the TV station, said he’s more anxious to see Nigerians eating three meals a day, and going on good roads.

He said: “When I put a lot of money at the time, by then, dollar was big money. Dollar was $84. I gave President Olusegun Obasanjo over $1 million. I gave the party (PDP) over N500 million to start the party.

“They were looking for money. The only few people who could have brought money then were TY Danjuma and Atiku Abubakar. Others had no money. All those people had no money to bring. And that is the truth.

“So for me, we are all friends. All this abusing Tinubu, abusing Orji Kalu, abusing Atiku Abubakar, abusing Amaechi should stop. What I think we should do, we should sit down as a family, talk about the needs of Nigerian people and deliver to them.

“I’m more anxious to see Nigerians eating three meals a day, going on good roads, going to good train stations, going to all these things, working in a decent factory and making decent money. This is what I would like.”

The Ondo State Police Command said five people have been arrested in connection with the alleged attack on the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College Aule, Akure, Mr Alexander Rotifa, by the parents of his students.

The suspects include the mother of the student who was alleged to have cheated during the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination with his Android phone, Mrs Dorcas Asije.

Mr Rotifa reportedly seized the mobile phone of an SS3 student after he was allegedly caught using it to cheat during the ongoing WASSCE.

This led to an altercation at school, and the student is said to have gone home to report the VP to his parent, who allegedly hired some thugs to beat him to a pulp, Punch reports.

A source said, “When the hired thugs arrived at the school to attack the VP, the school invited the policemen to rescue the man, but the thugs overwhelmed the policemen and dragged him out of their vehicle and pounced on brutally.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olayinka Alayande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, June 2, with the state Ministry of Education stating it had begun an investigation into the incident.

He said, “Following the assault on the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development Centre Akure, the Ondo State Police Command arrested Mrs. Dorcas Asije and four other accomplices.

“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) led a tactical team to ensure their swift arrest. The case has been transferred to SCID and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

“The public is advised to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.”

A mild drama occurred at the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, June 2, 2025 when a middle -aged man walked into the office premises and reported himself for the offence of impersonation and obtaining by false pretence, citing the fear of the EFCC.

According to the statement issued by the commission, the suspect, Idris Adamu, walked into the office of the EFCC at about 1300hrs and requested to see the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad. He said he wanted to confess some hidden truths about the crimes he had committed in the past.

Part of the statement reads, “While at the Directors office, he said,” I came to repent of my sins and to confess to the EFCC . In the past , I have obtained the aggregate sum of N9m through my bank account from different individuals in the guise of offering them employment opportunities in Federal Government agencies which was false. I have changed but I am afraid of the EFCC.

“Sa’ad, having listened to his confession, thanked him for speaking to the EFCC and directed that the self-confessed suspect be taken to the investigation department for a thorough investigation of the case.”

Nigerian lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has reacted to a trending video of Port Harcourt-based clergyman, David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries, threatening to arrest and detain anyone who reports on him negatively.Food tours

In a video circulating online, the cleric accused some bloggers of deliberately twisting his messages for their ulterior motives. Declaring that he would not tolerate misrepresentation, Ibiyeomie vowed to take firm action against anyone who “crosses the line.”

He added that he would not be moved by pleas for mercy, insisting he will deal decisively with those who defy him.

“My type when I go after people, they will now send people to come and beg. So I’m warning you for the last time. Next time, there will be nothing like a warning. If you dare it. A young man, I know you. Your father won’t beg me, I know your father too. Your mother won’t beg me. I will deal with you.

Because when I pick them and people say, why do you go like this? You know, people are one kind – some people will be for me and some people will be against me. But for me, there are always many.

I’m warning all of you who used to be against me. Hear now, because when I go that way, they will say ‘how can a man of God curse people, go and arrest people, will you do this one’.

So, when I go the other way, don’t come back to say this man of God is now using the police to arrest people. I will arrest you, I will lock you up. I don’t care. No man of God will pray for you and succeed.

Reacting to his comments, Adeyanju argued that people criticised Jesus and did not get locked up, so Ibiyeomie cannot threaten to lock anyone up.

A television anchor with Arise TV, who served as aide to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Reuben Abati, has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as rude.

Abati’s remarks come a day after the FCT Minister referred to a former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, as a politician who is hungry for power.

“Now that they are out of power, they say they are hungry. It’s not hunger for food. It’s hunger for power,” Wike said during a media parley on Monday morning.

While anchoring a TV program on Arise TV on Tuesday morning, Abati described Wike as a rude politician, noting that Amaechi is Wike’s boss in the field of politics.

“I think that Nyesom Wike is very rude and disrespectful because Rotimi Amaechi is his boss in politics,” said Abati.

“When he was local government chairman or was it councillor during Amaechi’s second term, it was Rotimi Amaechi that helped him to become local government chairman.”

Abati recounted a time when Wike knocked an elder statesman, Peter Odili, stating that he (Odili) did not qualify to be an elder.

“There is no time he has not insulted Peter Odili. He even referred to him as one man and his wife as one woman.”

He also advised President Bola Tinubu to be wary of Wike because he could insult him in the future just as he has done with Amaechi and others.

“Who will Nyesom Wike not insult? He insulted Senator John Mbata, who was his godfather at some point. He also showed signs that he will insult President Bola Tinubu.

“He pointed out that if he had known that President Tinubu would declare a state of emergency in Rivers, he would have offered a different kind of advice.

“That is already a signal to Tinubu that this man you are dealing with is only interested in his own permanent interests, not permanent friends. President Tinubu should beware because tomorrow he will also abuse this same President Tinubu.”
